2013 Road to Palm Springs
It was the advice of his father, citing the old adage “some days you eat the bear, and some days the bear eats you,” that gave Jerome Griffith the strength to lead the turnaround at Tumi.
When Jerome took over the travel, business and lifestyle accessories maker in 2009, he found a discouraging situation: a highly leveraged company struggling with the recent recession. He made the difficult decision to cut costs and then, in a bid to restore confidence in Tumi, traveled the globe to meet with business partners, product designers and banks.
The mission was a success. Thanks to Jerome, Tumi moved forward with a rebuilt reputation for quality products. Sales improved and the company doubled in size, and it subsequently went public in April 2012.
Today, Tumi’s products can be found in leading department stores and specialty stores in 65 countries around the globe.
