2013 Road to Palm Springs
Social media has changed how people connect. And through Curalate, Apu Gupta and Nick Shiftan are changing how people communicate. Their innovative technology helps apply image recognition algorithms to social media conversations. By translating images shared across lnstagram, Tumblr and Pinterest, they are providing invaluable marketing data for companies around the world.
Apu and Nick, who each held leadership roles at globally recognized brands before launching their own endeavor, connected first in California. But Philadelphia is where they cofounded a start-up called Storably, with the help of investors, then struggled getting the would-be marketplace for storage and parking off the ground. Instead of demanding the remaining cash, their investors told them to decide what to do with it.
Curalate was their next step, and since debuting in 2012, it has attracted more than 300 paying brands, including Neiman Marcus, Whole Foods Market, Time Inc. and Louis Vuitton.
