The Road to Palm Springs
Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Vinita Gupta, CEO of Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (LPI), was born into the pharmaceutical business. But it was her guidance and vision that established LPI as the US wholly owned subsidiary of Lupin Ltd., the company founded by her father. After earning her pharmacy degree in India and her MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, she worked in the pharmaceutical sector in the US. Today LPI provides quality branded and generic medications in the US.
Vinita’s ability to create the right team and her commitment to her vision and business model continue to reap rewards. She focused on creating a differentiated business approach and launched LPI’s operations and the Branded Business. Currently, as one of the few generic manufacturers with an additional branded play in the US market, LPI has four brands in its portfolio.
As the company has grown, Vinita hired a team to manage the day-to-day operations, including branding, sales, supply chain, pursuits and company culture. Many of the people added to her team were based on recommendations from customers. Her goal is to hire employees with a mindset similar to that of the existing company culture. Vinita’s team is entrepreneurial and works hard to develop smart growth using creative thinking when needed.
Vinita was a guest speaker at the 2012 World Trade Center Institute’s annual Women Spanning the Globe event, and she was a 2012 winner of the Maryland International Business Leadership Award.
