What was the transition from business school to Ernst & Young LLP like?

I worked in Advisory Services at Ernst & Young LLP for four years prior to business school, so returning to the organization and joining Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) was an easy transition for me.

Which MBA courses have helped you the most since joining EY?

Although almost every MBA class I took has helped me in my current position in various ways, the most helpful were Operations, Valuation, and M&A Accounting and Taxation. As a member of the TAS-OTS (Operational Transactions Services) team, I need a high-level understanding of every deal in which my client is involved, i.e., how the companies were valued, how the company operates and the financial and tax implications involved in the deal. The knowledge I gained from those three courses has guided me.

What was EY’s interview process like for you?

I had a behavioral interview on campus and three case and behavioral interviews off campus. The process was an interactive way for the TAS-OTS team to learn about me, and for me to learn more about the practice.

What’s a "week in the life" at EY like for you?

For me, a typical week starts with an early flight on Monday morning to arrive at the client site. The size of my team and the types of projects we perform vary depending on the size and type of the deal. If it’s an acquisition, we work with cross-functional teams to ensure the integration process runs smoothly and all issues are brought to management’s attention. I travel home on Thursday after updating my client about the week. On Friday, I work from the Ernst & Young LLP office to wrap up.

What has been your favorite project or client experience so far?

My favorite was a post-acquisition synergy analysis project. I worked closely with a senior manager and interviewed several executives to understand the synergy drivers and to analyze the actual synergies the combined company had realized. The numbers can be very different from what the investment banks initially provide the companies prior to the deal.

What interests or hobbies do you have outside of work?

I enjoy traveling internationally, learning to cook various types of cuisines, reading, exercising and biking.

Why did you choose EY?

The culture of EY lured me back. In addition, what TAS-OTS does is exactly what I had hoped to do after business school.
