top 10 of The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity for the fifth consecutive year
New York, 24 April 2013
Firm also ranks No. 1 on the DiversityInc specialty list for people with disabilities
Ernst & Young LLP was honored as No. 4 on The 2013 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list yesterday evening, advancing two spots from its 2012 ranking. This recognition marks two important milestones for the firm: its fifth consecutive year in the top 10 as well as its 10th appearance on the list to date — demonstrating continued momentum in its diversity and inclusiveness (D&I) efforts.
“At EY, our diverse, inclusive and borderless teams are key to delivering exceptional client service and meeting our clients’ specific needs in their local markets,” said Steve Howe, Ernst & Young LLP's Managing Partner. “That’s why diversity and inclusiveness are a priority for EY, commanding my attention and our investment.”
DiversityInc also announced a number of specialty lists, with Ernst & Young LLP ranking as follows:
- No. 1 Company for People With Disabilities
- No. 3 Company for LGBT Employees
- No. 4 Company for Global Diversity
- No. 8 Company for Executive Women
- No. 9 Company for Recruitment & Retention
“Our internal research shows that when people feel included and feel free to be themselves, outcomes driven by our long-term commitment to D&I, they’re more likely to stay with our firm,” added Karyn Twaronite, Americas Inclusiveness Officer for the global EY organization and a partner of Ernst & Young LLP. “This authentic engagement leads to higher retention, better brand favorability and stronger financial results — all critical to our business goals.”
The 2013 rankings were released on April 23 at the DiversityInc Top 50 Announcement Event in New York City. DiversityInc reported that more companies applied for the distinction this year, with a total of 893 companies from a wide range of industries participating in the survey. According to DiversityInc, the 2013 list includes companies whose leadership, procurement practices, communications and training best reflect the reality of the rapidly changing face of America. National survey trends this year included gains in both board diversity and employee resource groups.
DiversityInc CEO Luke Visconti said the following about Ernst & Young LLP’s performance: “The relentless emphasis on inclusivity and talent development of ALL employees starts at the top, with Steve Howe. Karyn Twaronite, who leads the Americas D&I efforts, has created a focused initiative to find, retain and promote the best talent and allow everyone to bring their true selves to work.”
In order to be considered for The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list, applicants must have at least 1,000 employees and are asked to complete a detailed 300-question survey divided into four equally weighted parts: CEO Commitment, Human Capital, Corporate and Organizational Communications, and Supplier Diversity. The results were determined based on empirical data, with DiversityInc staff judging each company within its own industry.
