Exceptional: Entrepreneurship + Innovation = Growth

What an exciting time for entrepreneurs. We just convened more than 1,700 entrepreneurs, CEOs and senior executives from America’s best high-growth, market-leading companies at the 2010 EY Strategic Growth Forum in Palm Springs, California.

With so many inspiring stories highlighted during the four-day Forum, it wasn’t hard to find exceptional CEOs who had a lot to share about growth, globalization and innovation and whose entrepreneurial spirits and tenacity make them apt features for this issue.

Daniel Lamarre, CEO of Cirque du Soleil, made the jump from the corporate world to a worldwide organization of 40,000 artists. He reflects on what it’s like to “treasure hunt” for creativity while globalizing Cirque’s unique brand of entertainment company.

Growth is nothing new to Charlie Vogt, CEO of telecommunications company GENBAND. With determined leadership and skilled decision-making, including a recent successful acquisition, Vogt has transformed GENBAND from a troubled US$5m start‑up to a global telecom leader with US$750m in revenue six years later. He shares his thoughts on customer care and calculated risk-taking.

For turnaround specialist Liz Smith, joining OSI Restaurant Partners as CEO was an irresistible challenge. She explains how she combines creativity and analytics to increase profits and growth.

You’ll also find an article on how high-growth companies can develop and execute successful M&A strategies.

There is a lot more to inspire you inside the pages that follow. We hope you enjoy this edition of Exceptional.
