Spouse/guest program: The Science of Catching Happiness™
Featured speaker Julie Shifman will use personal stories and humor grounded in today’s scientific research to share her top five “happiness catchers.” Julie believes that by seeking to catch happiness in a proactive way, all of us can live happier lives. Julie is excited to be sharing the stage with Dr. Tererai Trent, about whom Nicholas Kristof recently wrote in The New York Times, “Any time anyone tells you that a dream is impossible, any time you’re discouraged by impossible challenges, just mutter this mantra: Tererai Trent.” Tererai is a Zimbabwean-American woman whose unlikely educational success has brought her international fame.
Julie Shifman is described by many as one of the happiest people they know. Julie tends to agree with them, which led her to wonder why. She found the answer in the study of positive psychology. As Julie says, until 20 years ago, happiness was the realm of poets and philosophers. In the last 20 years, happiness has become the subject of real science. Julie started her career as a ballet dancer, leaving ballet to go to law school. After a highly successful career as a lawyer, she reinvented again, founding her company, Act Three, and authoring her first book. She is a sought-after keynote speaker. Julie has a JD and a master’s in Tax Law from New York University.
