2008 Entrepreneurial Winning Women

In 2008, Ernst & Young launched its first annual Entrepreneurial Winning Women program and selected five women entrepreneurs. Read about their companies here.

in-Jean-ius is an innovative women’s retailer focused on helping women find the perfect jeans to fit their specific body type and style preferences. Superior customer service, an exhaustive jean selection and unmatched expertise on brands and fit distinguish the in-jean-ius brand. Since opening in 2005, in-jean-ius has been recognized as the market leader in the Boston area; boutique owner, Alison Barnard, is a featured denim expert for publications such as People Magazine and Women’s Wear Daily, and was named one of Inc. magazine's “Top 30 Under 30,” Ultimately, in-jean-ius intends to expand the brand nationwide, including exploring the men’s market.

Go GaGa designs and distributes ergonomically safe and stylish totes with diverse uses, from carrying diapers or yoga gear to toting a laptop. Go GaGa currently sells its products through more than 50 retailers in the US and Canada to customers of all ages who are looking for products with a sleek, urban style. Go GaGa intends to become a global product design and development company that creates ergonomically safe products ranging from luggage to eldercare items sold through distribution channels including boutiques and national chains.

Dyad Systems reduces the time to market for biomedical companies conducting clinical research through project rescue consulting services, data management and custom application development services. The company’s clients are organizations with demanding clinical pipelines that are looking for alternatives to fullservice outsourcing providers. Dyad’s project management methodology coupled with enabling technologies helps companies complete clinical studies weeks and months ahead of schedule, thereby generating product revenue sooner. For 2009, the company will continue to build critical mass in its service areas and expand its presence in the medical device and biopharmaceutical industries.


Linda Smith, Peloton Diagnostics Corporation

Peloton Diagnostics Corporation was formed to supply consumables for medical diagnostics. In combination with established optical imaging platforms, its products will make possible an order of magnitude reduction in cost and time per diagnostic test. Peloton’s product platform strategy addresses existing high-growth in-vitro diagnostics market segments, including nucleic acid assays and immunoassays as well as live cell, small animal and tissue imaging markets. Longer term, the company will break open and lead point-of-care diagnostics — ultimately enabling early diagnosis of chronic disease and the widespread practice of preventative medicine.


Kathleen Utecht, Green Rock Entertainment

Green Rock Entertainment creates, manufactures and distributes the award-winning toy/game, Cahootie. Just named “2008 Game of the Year,” Cahootie is the modern twist on the classic paper-folding fortune game recognized around the world. Cahootie debuted in stores in November 2007, is now in more than 1,800 retail outlets across the US and will make its debut in Hallmark stores in 2009. European distribution is expected to follow.
