World Entrepreneur Awards

Programme overview

The programme in Southern Africa was launched in 1998 and has been running for over a decade.

The Master entrepreneur category award was designed to honour individuals whose outstanding achievements have made them the world's most successful entrepreneurial business leaders.

The Emerging entrepreneur category, introduced in 2005, was created to single out and acknowledge individuals who have shown exceptional tenacity and determination in building a successful enterprise. In the face of adversity and significant challenges, they helped fuel economic growth in South Africa.

In 2007 a third category was introduced for outstanding social entrepreneurs. In partnership with the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship. The Social entrepreneur category recognises those innovators who implement practical and sustainable solutions to address problems in numerous areas including health, education, environment, access to technology and job creation.

Entrepreneurship is about vision combined with hard work, breaking new ground or redefining the already tried and tested. Our award recipients manage companies that are real South African success stories.
