How will the South African EY Tax nominee be selected?

The Young Tax Professional of the Year for South Africa will be selected through a three stage process.

In the first stage an online test paper based on local tax knowledge, consisting of 2 narrative questions will need to be completed and submitted.

In the second stage, candidates will be shortlisted based on the marks achieved for the online test paper as well as a role play that involves client meetings. The candidates will be given a scenario that they need to prepare solutions for and present to a client panel consisting of EY Directors.

In the third and final stage, all shortlisted candidates will then be invited to a one day event where they will be given 45 minutes to prepare and present a case study to a panel comprising of Tax Lecturers, Tax Officials and EY Tax Directors. There will be a gala event to close the event where the winner will be announced.

The winner of the South African competition will then progress to the International competition. In the International competition all participants will be challenged with case studies and interviews before expert judges. The finalists will be invited to a prestigious awards ceremony where the winner of the Young Tax Professional of the Year Award will be announced.
