- One’s choice of perspective matters, both in developing an Africa-related strategy and in implementing it. African business ventures can be risky, but no more so than those in other much-hyped emerging markets. Giving substance to one’s Africa strategy involves a choice: one can emphasis a search for opportunities and then factor-in risks accordingly; or take a ‘risks-first’ approach and only weigh opportunities after first filtering for risk. In our experience and observations, those companies that are succeeding in Africa are seeking the opportunities first, and then managing the risks.
