Online application forms ensure all applicants are assessed fairly and objectively. A member of our recruitment team reads each application.
This is your opportunity to share as much relevant information as possible about yourself with our recruitment team. Allow a minimum of 30 minutes to complete the application form and attach your CV and transcript. You can save your application at any point and return to it if necessary. After you have submitted your application, you may be invited to complete a short online situational judgement questionnaire. You will receive an email with detailed information about this test, so please ensure you check your emails regularly.
The next stage in our process is to complete a timed online verbal, numeric and diagrammatic reasoning test. These tests, along with your application and results from the situational questionnaire will assist us when considering which applicants to bring through to a recruitment day.
Attend the Recruitment Day
Once you have passed the online application stage, we may invite you to join one of our recruitment days. During the day, we are particularly keen to find out about you as a person – your strengths and attributes, and what you’re interested in.
The recruitment day will include a group case study and an interview. You may be randomly selected to sit an additional test to validate your online aptitude tests.
The exact structure and content of the Recruitment Day will depend on the program you apply to, as different roles require different skills. You’ll receive more information with your invitation.

What to expect during a recruitment day
Attending a recruitment day can be quite daunting – especially if it’s your first time! So that you feel more comfortable and confident about what to expect, we’ve put together a brief overview of some of the main activities, plus some helpful tips for you to consider as well.
There’ll be two people interviewing you - a combination of a partner, executive director, senior manager or manager. They’ll ask you motivational and behavioural-based questions that relate to what we look for in our people. You’ll be able to answer these questions using examples from your studies, work experience or extra-curricular activities.
- Learn as much as you can about EY: who we are, our services, our strategic direction and our vision.
- Make sure you can articulate how your strengths and career goals are aligned with ours, and why you think you’ll succeed in our organisation.
- Articulate how this role compliments your longer term career plans.
- Think about what differentiates you and articulate this in your answers.
- Review current market activity and think about how this may impact the business area you are applying for.
- Ask us questions about our organisation, our clients, the opportunities we can offer you and what you can expect from us.
- Try to relax and remember that we’re interested in the real you. Our interviewers are trained to get the best from you so enjoy it!
- Listen to each question the interviewer is asking and think about your best example.

- Practice the STAR technique (situation, task, action, result) when answering questions and prepare at least one question for your interviewers

You’ll be asked to solve a problem or issue with other students who are also attending the recruitment day. We’ll observe how you work as a team to resolve the problem or issue.
There is no preparation you can do for this part of the day. During the exercise, ensure you get involved, speak clearly and that you are motivated, energetic and of course, be yourself!
You may be randomly selected to validate your online aptitude test results.
You’ll have lots of interaction throughout the day with people from all parts of our organisation, from recent graduates to partners.
Make sure you come along with some questions you can ask people from different parts of our organisation. Use this time to find out more about what we do and what it’s like working at EY.
Some of our recent graduates or cadets will take you on an office tour so you can get a feel what our facilities are like and how different floors are set-up.

If you're an international student keen to join us as a graduate or vacationer, you'll need to meet the following criteria.
- You currently reside in Australia
- You're currently enrolled in an Information Technology Degree or an Accounting degree that is accredited by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand as satisfying the academic requirements for entry into the Chartered Accountants Program.
- You must be studying your degree at an Australian campus of an Australian university. Prior to joining EY full time, you must have completed two years of your degree at that campus.
- You’ll need to complete an approved English Language test prior to submitting your application and provide proof of ‘Superior English’ as outlined by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
- You are eligible to apply for Australian permanent residency under the Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189) and you must submit an Expression of Interest via the SkillSelect process immediately after graduating. You must be legally entitled to work in Australia until your permanent residency is granted and be able to provide evidence of this to EY.
- To apply under the Points Based Skilled Migration category, you must have a nominated occupation which is listed on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). More details about the SOL are available on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website
- If you’re applying for our Vacationer Program, you must be legally entitled to work full-time in Australia for the duration of the program.
If you are not an Australian or NZ citizen, we will ask for your passport details such as passport number, name and place of birth as part of the recruitment process. This information is used to review your working rights in Australia. The facility used for this check is VEVO (Visa Entitlement Verification Online) which is an online facility provided by the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection that allows an organisation to check the visa entitlements of a visa holder.
Due to client requirements, applicants applying for our Graduate or Vacationers programs in the Canberra office must be an Australian Citizen.

Applying to EY
I'm a student. What are my opportunities with EY?
Depending on the office in which you're interested in working, you may be eligible for the Career Compass, Cadet, Co-Op, Vacationer or Graduate Program. You can join us from school or university as a cadet and combine work and university study. As a Co-op student (Melbourne only) you work with us for 9 to 12 months before completing the final year of your degree. As a vacationer, you gain between two weeks and three months work experience with us in your penultimate year of uni. As a graduate, you join us as a permanent employee following the completion of your university studies.
Regardless whether you start as a cadet, vacationer or as a participant of the Career Compass or Game Changer Club Program, all have the potential to become full-time positions. Go to Student Programs to learn more about the opportunities available.
How do I start the application process?
Familiarise yourself with our eligibility requirements. If you meet these requirements you can complete the online application form. You'll need to attach an electronic copy of your academic transcript. You'll need to attach an electronic copy of your academic transcript and your CV. If you're an international student residing and studying in Australia, we'll ask you to submit a copy of your proof of ‘Superior English’ results. I've just graduated, can I apply now or am I too late?
You can apply to our Graduate Program within 18 months after you finished university at the time of application. Lodge your application once we've opened the process, which we do each year, normally in early March. Check our website for the exact dates.
Do you offer positions to international students studying at Australian universities?
Yes. Our Graduate or Vacationer Program is open to international students. Find out more about our requirements. At this time, we are not accepting applications from students based outside Australia.
What majors besides accounting does EY hire?
As a global professional services organisation, we tackle diverse and challenging clients and projects. Developing excellent relationships and delivering effective business solutions requires specialists from many different subject areas – not just accounting or commerce. These include human resources, information systems, information technology, computer science, engineering, law, science, environmental studies, actuarial studies, economics, finance, maths, arts and psychology.
Do you accept applications from post-graduate students?
Yes, we do. We employ post-graduates with a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences who have completed Honours, Masters, MBA and Graduate Diploma courses into our Vacationer and Graduate Programs, and consider them for experienced hire opportunities.
What does EY look for in potential employees?
It is not just based on academic performance. We are looking for well-rounded candidates with good communication, analytical and interpersonal skills. We also want someone who will work well in a team and who is enthusiastic and motivated to learn.
Are there any offices where it's easier to obtain an interview or offer?
All our offices require the same high standards of academic qualifications, competencies and personal qualities. Do you recruit vacationers and graduates into Core Business Service?
Core Business Services help our business to run efficiently and effectively. Teams include Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, Administrative Support, Marketing, Knowledge and Business Development. How do I choose which service line to join?
The right choice for you will reflect your area of interest and specialisation. Have a good look around our website to get a feel for who we are and the services we offer. Then speak with your lecturers, recruiters, campus careers advisors, friends and family to gather all the information you need to understand where you may best fit. EY is growing and expanding in new and exciting business areas, so there are lots of opportunities for you to consider. Do I need to complete the Chartered Accountant (CA) program if I join EY?
The requirement for Chartered Accountancy qualifications depends on the Service Line you're working in. Some groups require their staff to complete the CA Program . We support this qualification through study leave, mentoring and financial support. We also offer students who don't have an accounting background an online bridging course to convert their degree to meet the CA Program requirements. This online course is done via Deakin University.
Can I apply for a job outside my home country?
You are able to apply for any open positions you see in any one of our 150 countries that hires graduates. Your eligibility, however, depends on the hiring country's qualification requirements, employment laws, work permit and/or visa requirements.
What is the organisation's policy on flexible working?
Flexibility is important to our employees, who are looking to manage their work commitments alongside other aspects of their lives. Do you offer work experience? What program would suit me best?
We don't currently offer work experience placements but during your final year at school you can apply for a cadetship in New South Wales or Victoria. If you're in the penultimate year of your degree, you can apply for our Vacationer Program. Please go to student programs for more opportunities. What responsibilities do vacationers have?
Vacationers work with a team just like every other new graduate staff. Your experience will differ depending on the service line you join. However, the Vacationer Program is designed to give you a taste for what a full-time position would involve so you will gain exposure to different managers and businesses, be involved in collecting and analysing data, helping prepare presentation and participate in meetings.Rest assured you will also receive intensive training to help get you started and extensive coaching from the advisors on your team along the way.
What is the IILC?
The International Intern Leadership Conference is an annual event held in Disneyland, Orlando, Florida. It's the largest event of its kind and is attended by over 2900 interns and vacationers from all over the world. IILC gives vacationers the opportunity to meet and greet our global leadership and learn about our vision and strategy. The conference is by invitation only and is a reward to the best performing vacationers. If successful, you'll learn from our top leaders, participate in seminars on current global issues and get involved in team activities. It's a great way to build your global network and your vision of what your future at EY might be.

How will I continue to grow as a professional?
We aim to give you interesting and challenging work which allows you to develop your skills and knowledge on a continuous basis. And we back up your day-to-day responsibilties with one of the most comprehensive training programs in the business. Will EY help me get my Chartered Accountant qualification?
Yes, we provide you with assistance to pass the Institute of Chartered Accountant's Chartered Accountant (CA) program and the Graduate Certificate of Chartered Accounting Foundations course. We provide:
- financial assistance (subject to terms and conditions) and study support material
- study leave
- study support workshops
- business unit support through CA partners and employees
- payment of ICAA membership fees
- merit awards
We also support the Masters of Tax, Securities Institute of Australia (SIA) and other relevant business, financial and professional courses.
Once I join what opportunities do I have for working in another country?
We're committed to offering our people international experiences. Once you've spent some time with us, you can apply for a short- or long-term secondment or international mobility program. You'll need a strong performance record to qualify. Speak to your counsellor and he or she will help you identify any suitable opportunities to enhance your career development with some international experience.

Life at EY
What's expected of me in the first few days, weeks and months of my career?
Regardless whether you join us as an co-op, vacationer, cadet or graduate, you're not expected to know your job inside-out on your first day with the firm. Your development will start on day one, where you'll partake in our firm-wide induction and training. Your development will continue progressively throughout your first year - and throughout your entire career with us.
When will I start work?
Graduate positions commence in the new year, usually between January and April, and some divisions offer a mid-year start which is generally in July. Depending on the needs of the business we may be able to offer you some flexibility in terms of your start date. Vacation employment varies in each location but is typically over the summer vacation period running from December until February with a break over the Christmas and New Year period. Our Perth and Adelaide offices also offer a Winter Vacationer Program in June/July.
What hours will I work a week?
Our core hours of work are either from 8.30am to 5.00pm or 8.45am to 5.15pm depending on which state you work in and our work/life policy states that mandatory meetings cannot be scheduled before 8am or after 6pm. However, your hours will vary according to the work or engagement in which you're involved. Occasionally, there may be some weekend work, particularly during busy periods. We encourage teams at all levels to work flexibly and discuss and negotiate how to meet the demands of each engagement. By communicating regularly with your team and counsellor, you'll be able understand their expectations and plan your time effectively.
What is the average starting salary?
In addition to the training, development and support you receive during your career, we reward you for your commitment and potential through performance based remuneration, flexibility and a range of benefits.
We know your salary isn't the most important thing but we know it's important. That's why we spend a significant amount of time reviewing market salary data to ensure we offer you a salary that is attractive and commensurate with our competitors. And, this continues throughout your career as we review market data on an ongoing basis.
What do people wear at EY?
Our office dress policy is contemporary business wear. However, we're providing a professional service to our clients and they expect us to look the part, so formal business attire is appropriate for meetings with clients. The exception to this rule is when you're based at client sites, in which case you may adopt the client's dress code policy.
What is the social life like in the office?
Here, you'll find individuals representing a variety of backgrounds, opinions and perspectives but united by a shared set of values. This means that there are plenty of groups and networks built around shared issues and interests. These range from hobbies, sports and creative or intellectual pursuits through to support and volunteer opportunities. They also include groups such as working mothers. Regardless of your background or areas of focus, you'll find colleagues who share your interests.
