Our 2015 EY Australian International Intern Leadership Conference (IILC) attendees share some of their top highlights and favourite memories. Could you be joining them next year?

Ian, Perth

I learned that to be successful we should be clear about our personal values and purpose, and we should challenge ourselves to learn and improve continually. I learned that EY is supportive of each person’s journey. I think the most useful session for me professionally was the team challenge day. I began to understand that the success of a team comes as much from each person performing their role competently as it does from the team knowing one another and trusting each other. This will change my focus in the workplace from being highly task oriented towards being more relationship oriented while working in a team.

I never thought I would have the opportunity to chat with EY’s Global CEO and Chairman! I was blown away by Mark’s humility and charisma as a leader. He’s so down to earth. His speech showed his passion about EY’s vision and his concern for each and every individual at EY. He said we shouldn’t forget where we came from and who helped us get there. This is something I want to keep in mind for my own career path. I was amazed that Mark stayed and allowed interns to chat to him and take photos despite it being his birthday that day!

Jodie, Wollongong

The two biggest highlights were, first listening to the stories and pieces of advice from EY’s senior leaders. Their passion for the organisation and the vision inspired me to continue in my career with EY. It was refreshing to see the senior management focusing on the next generation of leaders of EY and allowing us to decide how we were going to build our legacy within the organisation. I know that if I pursue my passions, EY will provide me with opportunities to thrive.

Second, the people I have had the opportunity to meet and build relationships with, allowing me to extend my professional network across the world. As an intern, the IILC was an invaluable experience to build this network and create opportunities to have experiences throughout different offices and countries in my future career.

Rebecca, Brisbane

The speeches by EY senior leaders were inspiring, the workshops were insightful and the activities were a lot of fun! But the invaluable opportunity to meet future EY employees from 24 different countries made it a life-changing experience.

One of my first rides at Universal Studios was the Hulk ride: a giant menacing green rollercoaster that would spin you 360 degrees and upside-down multiple times. It was an exhilarating experience, made all the more special because I shared it with my roommate Stefan, who had never been on a rollercoaster before!
