EY has announced the successful entrepreneurs in the running to be 2017 Australian EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™.

Rob Dalton, Partner Ernst & Young Australia, Growth Markets Leader and EY Australia Entrepreneur of the Year Leader, said this year’s regional finalists brought together a unique mix of entrepreneurs representing the diversification of Australia’s economy and our increasingly global footprint.

“We have received outstanding entries from some of Australia’s entrepreneurs and are delighted to announce our more than 60 finalists from NSW, Victoria, WA, Queensland and South Australia.”

These entrepreneurs have built businesses ranging from toxin free superfoods through to luxury property development. While their outputs are diverse to say the least, the entrepreneurs all bear a number of common traits. They think outside the box, they relish challenge and they won’t take “no” for an answer. By challenging orthodox methods and creating new markets for goods and services, entrepreneurs positively disrupt the way we do business and help enhance our quality of life.”

Australia is a nation of entrepreneurs, and this year’s regional finalists are a testament to this entrepreneurial spirit,” said Mr Dalton.

“At EY, we’re enormously proud of our long legacy working with entrepreneurs and growth companies. Supporting entrepreneurs is deeply embedded in our values and our purpose to build a better working world.

Entrepreneurship drives innovation. Our regional finalists are inspiring others by creating employment, improving their productivity and importantly, driving our local and national economy forward. They are an inspirational group of leaders.”

Mark Couter, Commonwealth Bank’s Acting Executive General Manager for Corporate Financial Services said, “The regional finalists show the breadth and depth of entrepreneurial talent across Australia, which is very encouraging for the nation’s economic development.

“At Commonwealth Bank we see innovation as a critical ingredient for thriving businesses so we’re proud to sponsor a program supporting Australia’s top business innovators.”

EY globally had been celebrating, advising, guiding, recognising and connecting the best high-growth entrepreneurs for more than 30 years, not only through the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Program, but through the organisation’s Global Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

The regional finalists will be assessed by a panel of independent judges, including previous Entrepreneur Of The Year™ award winners and other successful Australian business leaders, across six core criteria: entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, personal integrity and influence, financial performance, strategic direction, and national and global impact.

The entrepreneurs going on to compete as national finalists will be announced from late July.. The overall Australian winner, announced at a gala ceremony in Melbourne on 1 November, will then continue onto the global program, travelling to Monte Carlo in June 2018 to compete for the title of EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year™. They will follow in the footsteps of 2015 Australian EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ winner, Manny Stul, Moose Enterprises, who was the first-ever Australian to be crowned World Entrepreneur Of The Year in 2016.

As the first and only truly global award of its kind, EY Entrepreneur Of The Year celebrates those who are building and leading successful, growing and dynamic businesses, recognising them through regional, national and global awards programs in more than 145 cities in more than 60 countries.

The Australian Entrepreneur Of The Year awards program, launched in 2001, is conducted in five regions culminating in the national awards. The program honours entrepreneurs whose ingenuity and perseverance have created and sustained successful, growing business ventures. Entrepreneur Of The Year’s primary objective is to identify, acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding contribution entrepreneurs make to the Australian business community and economy.

EY encourages women to apply to enter the Entrepreneur Of The Year awards. The program supports women entrepreneurs to think bigger, gain access to capital, enhance their business profile, network, learn from their peers and find seasoned advisors.

The Australian Entrepreneur Of The Year program now has alumni of over 1,400 entrepreneurs who have participated in the program. Since the program’s inception more than 15,000 people have attended Entrepreneur Of The Year events and award ceremonies in Australia.
