About EY Challenge

What Is It?

EY Challenge is a new, dynamic, winner-take-all business competition unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. The competition brings together the best and brightest students from across Canada to compete in an interactive and exciting three day challenge. Winning teams from each region will be selected during the Campus Finals to travel to Toronto for the EY Challenge National Finals held on Feb 23rd – 25th, 2017.

History

Our teams have been developing this national event over the last few years and even tested a smaller version of the competition during one of our regional programs. The inaugural EY Challenge kicked off on over 10 campus across Canada in November 2015. Regional winners from this campus finals travelled to our EY Toronto office in February 2016 for a 3-day business challenge unlike anything of its kind.

How You Can Get Involved

Students can get involved in one of three ways:

  1. Form a team of four and compete at your campus finals
  2. Be a participant (cheer on teams, join in networking sessions, and be eligible for the grand prize)
  3. Be a volunteer (participate in the EY Challenge finals as volunteer, not a competitor)

To participate in the prize (if the winning team is from your school), you need to fall under one of the above three categories.

Campus Finals

Register as a team of four, and work within your team to prepare a business pitch for a mystery product. You will present your pitch to a panel of EY judges and your peers on campus and a winner will be chosen to represent your university. The Campus Finals act as a round robin to choose one team to represent your campus. Ten campuses across Canada will be represented at the EY Challenge Final in Toronto in late February.

EY Challenge

Ten winners, selected during the campus finals, from the following universities will be competing in the 2017 EY Challenge held in Toronto over three days from Feb 23 – 25, 2017 (from West to East):

  1. Vancouver (1 from) UBC
  2. Alberta (2 from) U of A, U of C, MRU, MacEwan
  3. Toronto (4 from) U of T, Queen`s, Western, Schulich
  4. Montreal (2 from) McGill, HEC
  5. Co-op Wildcard Team (1 from) Waterloo, Laurier, Brock

EY Challenge will encompass four main pillars of performance:

  1. Quality and Values
  2. Winning in the Market
  3. People Engagement and Highest Performing Teams
  4. Operational Excellence

Teams will compete in different challenges that represent each of these four pillars to demonstrate their overall excellence and capabilities. The winning team will be the one with the most points and will be awarded the ultimate prize. There are no cases in this competition.

Quote
Students are participating in case competitions all throughout university. We wanted to create something completely different where they could make their own rules and decisions but still apply all of their business knowledge from classes. From this simple idea, the EY Challenge was born. Katie Wilson, Assurance Campus Recruiting Leader
