The CIOs of Amcor Group GmbH, Huber+Suhner AG, Lombard Odier Investment Managers, the City of Zurich and Visilab SA were recognized as 2017 Top CIOs. The Swiss CIO Award is the most prestigious award in the industry and is presented by professional training company Confare in collaboration with audit and advisory firm EY.
ZURICH, 26 SEPTEMBER 2017 – The IT Manager of 2017 is Christoph Kleinsorg, CIO of aviation services company Swissport International Ltd. Swiss CIO Award prizewinner Christoph Kleinsorg was delighted: “It is not just my award; It is an award for my whole team and I. To put it simply: I am proud of what we have been able to achieve in such a short space of time and with straightforward resources, and view the award as confirmation and recognition of our work. Our global IT transformation is scheduled for completion by 2019. The award is therefore a major motivation for us to achieve the milestones we have set ourselves going forward.
More than just an award
Around 150 high-profile IT decision-makers took part in the 6th Swiss CIO & IT Manager Summit at Hotel Marriott in Zurich at the invitation of conference organizer Confare. Both national and international IT managers and industry professionals gave presentations and held discussions under the motto “Be CIO” on topics such as transformation, innovation, cybercrime and the role of IT in the digital world.
Andreas Toggwyler, Partner and Head IT Risk and Assurance at advisory firm EY commented regarding the importance of the CIO Award: “It is much more than an award recognizing the best CIO in Switzerland. Over the years, the SWISS CIO Award has grown into a platform where CIOs meet and interface. The whole event conveys respect and appreciation for IT and offers an opportunity to learn from the best.”
Strong field of candidates and worthy winner
In the run-up to the event, a high-caliber jury selected the winner of the 2017 Swiss CIO Award and the other Top CIOs from a large pool of nominations. “It was again a very tough decision from among a very strong field of candidates. Ultimately it was Christoph Kleinsorg and the way in which he systematically coordinated the large transformation project at Swissport – which posed many challenges from a technical and organizational perspective – that gave him the edge,” explained the jury.
Alongside Kleinsorg as the main prize winner, Sascha Schick from the Amcor Group, Urs Widmer from Huber+Suhner, Stéphane Rey from Lombard Odier Investment Managers, Martin Schellenberg from the City of Zurich and Marc Besson from Visilab SA were recognized as Top CIOs. The awards were handed over by the winner of the 2016 Swiss CIO Award, Patrick Freudiger.
Confare founder and initiator of the Swiss CIO Award, Michael Ghezzo, stated: “Our prizewinners are pioneers and figureheads of innovation: they drive business and digitization within their companies and bring publicity to the work done in the area of IT.”
The Top CIOs were also delighted with their awards: “In accepting the CIO Award, not only am I proud of my personal capabilities and achievements over my professional career, but also thankful for the many people who have worked by my side during the past 15 years. I would like to encourage people to give of their best and show them that – with a clear vision, goals and the right attitude and personal values – success is within the grasp of all us. […] The CIO Award will also give a boost to our profession and thus the entire IT industry,” said Sascha Schick from the Amcor Group.
The 7th Swiss CIO & IT Manager Summit will be held on 19 September 2018. Nominations can be submitted for the Swiss CIO Award up until 30 June 2018. The documentation to be submitted can be found at www.cioaward.ch from the beginning of 2018.
