Enterprises should consider social development while achieving growth

23 May 2012, Beijing – EY is pleased to announce that the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2012 China awards program (EOY 2012 China) is now open for nominations. Recognized globally, the awards honor the most outstanding entrepreneurs who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement.

Albert Ng, China Chairman and Greater China Managing Partner of EY, says, “The world economy has been going through a very difficult time. Positive signs are emerging in some countries while stresses are still prominent in others. The world has turned its attention to the emerging markets. At this juncture, I cannot think of a better theme for this year’s EOY China awards - Driving growth for collaborative success. China is playing an integral part in the collaborative success. On the global front, China’s emergence as one of the major world economic powers enables it to impose a positive influence on the global economy. Domestically, the government intends to narrow the gap between the rich and poor. China can also strike a better balance in the development of urban and rural areas, as well as state and privately owned enterprises.”

Joe Tsang, Managing Partner for China North of EY, and Terence Ho, Strategic Growth Markets for Greater China of EY, will continue to act as Program Co-Chairmen.

Tsang says, “For an enterprise, the key to collaborative success lies in the ability to consolidate its growth for a more sustainable future. Individual companies in the market therefore need to embrace innovation and take up their corporate responsibility to ensure that they will not grow at the expense of the environment or the interests of the community in which they operate – they need to work towards creating a healthy business environment that benefits all.”

Ho adds: “EOY China awards program, now in its seventh year, has become a widely recognized awards program in the country. We believe that there is deep relevancy between entrepreneurship and social and economic development. We also recognize the contributions made by entrepreneurs to global economic development. We continuously promote entrepreneurship and honor outstanding entrepreneurs through the EOY awards program.  Our commitment to entrepreneurial companies, in both emerging and developed economies around the world, helps ensure that we’re working closely with more global leaders.”

To mark the launch of the EOY 2012 China awards program, business leaders are invited to attend today’s launch ceremony and panel discussion. The discussion focuses on how entrepreneurs are building successful businesses. The discussion is hosted by Liao Jianwen, Associate Dean of Executive Education, Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB). Panelists include Cho Tak Wong, Chairman of Fuyao Glass Industry Group Co., Ltd.; Luo Lin, Chairman of the Board, Anton Oilfield Services (Group) Ltd.; Wen Yibo, Chairman of Beijing Sound Environmental Group; Niu Wenwen, President of The Founder and Paul Go, Managing Partner of Industries & Priority Accounts, EY.

HSBC Private Bank will continue to be the awards program's Platinum Sponsor and EY welcomes Jaguar Land Rover China to be the Gold Sponsor this year.

Richard Hu, Managing Director, Business Head, China, Global Private Banking of HSBC Private Bank, says, “China is not only a strong economic power on its own but is increasingly playing an integral part in driving global growth. The success of China today is underpinned by a large group of entrepreneurs who have impressed the world by their drive to excel and by turning their insights into achievements. Their insights form the basis of true entrepreneurship. At HSBC Private Bank, we share the same vision - while being global is about insight, we believe being local is about developing close relationships with each other and our clients. Through our international connections and local expertise, we look to recognise these outstanding entrepreneurs and help them develop opportunities wherever they may arise, as we do for our clients globally.”

The EOY China awards program is uniquely global. The country winners go on to represent China at an international awards ceremony in June 2013 to compete for the prestigious title of EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year. The program also represents a unique opportunity to network with leading business people from China and around the world through the Entrepreneur Of The Year Academy.

The nomination period for the EOY 2012 China awards has opened today. The nomination form is available in the Nomination Brochure and on the EOY China website The deadline for applications is 29 June 2012.
