Birrarung Marr Park

Birrarung Marr Park

Birrarung Marr or "River of Mists" celebrates Victoria's Aboriginal heritage through two significant installations. Birrarung Willam or "River Camp" marks a famous corner where Aboriginal leaders would debate and advocate for Aboriginal rights. Five metal shields representing the five groups of the Kuin nation mark this site today, where oral histories of the area can also be heard on the Art Play wall. The second installation is a sculpture and winding pathway on the ground, recognising the annual hunting and trapping of eels, celebrating the important role of the Birrarung and the eel in providing sustenance for Aboriginal groups.
