Humberto Enrique Rodríguez

Founder and President

Grupo Sala

Going green really does pay according to entrepreneur and environmentalist, Humberto Rodríguez. After witnessing the devastating pollution in his native Cartagena, Humberto was inspired to launch Grupo Sala in 1996.

The business specializes in the use of innovative technology for the removal of industrial waste, water sanitation and garbage collection. Grupo Sala is composed of 24 companies based in Colombia and Panama and employs more than 3,100 people. The company collects more than 895,000 tons of solid waste and distributes more than 11,000 cubic meters of water each year.

It’s been a challenge to convince fellow Colombians that climate change is real and that minimizing the impact of waste plays a key part in protecting the planet’s future. However, Humberto’s passion and perseverance have seen the company expand and work hand in hand with the Colombian Government to change environmental policy.
