EY Africa Markets Leader
Sugan Palanee joined the EY member firm in South Africa directly out of school and was admitted as a partner in 2003. A few years later, he was appointed KwaZulu-Natal Regional Managing Partner. In his current role as Markets Leader – Africa, Sugan is committed to transformation of the audit profession. He set up and currently leads the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Strategic Services Division nationally. In addition, he serves on the Executive of EY Africa, leading a number of market segments across Africa.Having worked across geographies, Sugan has connected with a number of multinationals, gaining their confidence and being retained as an advisor for their plans of expanding into Africa. He is regarded as an authority on transformative legislation, primarily in South Africa and increasingly throughout Africa.
Sugan was appointed by the President to the Income Tax Court of South Africa. He also chaired the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants Council and played a leading role in the Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants.
