Koichi Hanabusa

Area Managing Partner – Japan

Koichi is responsible for the leadership of our Japan Area, which comprises more than 7,000 people. He is also CEO of Ernst & Young ShinNihon, LLC, the largest audit firm in Japan.

Previous experience

Koichi began his career with EY in 1981 in Tokyo. He has considerable international experience, including with EY's Financial Services Office (FSO) in New York from 1989 to 1996, and serving as a Global Client Service Partner for many of our largest global clients.

Koichi has led audit teams using his deep industry insight and interdisciplinary knowledge of technical accounting, internal control issues and risk management.

From 2010 to 2012, Koichi served as the Japan Area FSO Leader and, subsequently, from 2012 to 2014, he served as the Japan Area Assurance Leader.

Credentials and community activities

Throughout his career, he has made a significant contribution to the Japanese accounting profession; in particular, to the Institute of Japanese Certified Public Accountants and to academic institutions including the Japanese Association of International Accounting Studies and the Japan Accounting Association.

Koichi is also a member of Keizai Doyukai (Japan Association of Corporate Executives).

Koichi holds a BA in Economics from Keio University in Tokyo and is a Certified Public Accountant in Japan.
