Ernst & Young LLP, Business Tax Compliance
Carolyn Bailey leads Ernst & Young LLP’s corporate and partnership income tax compliance practices. She has over 20 years of combined industry and tax consulting experience in assisting large multinational companies with complex federal and state income tax compliance, planning and tax department operational issues. Carolyn led the firm’s internal compliance transformation, which focused on developing and implementing innovative technologies to support the service delivery and continuous improvement of tax compliance. She is also the driving force behind the creation and rollout of EYTaxSpace™ - Ernst & Young LLP’s leading edge tax compliance platform.
Formerly Tax Director for two Fortune 500 companies, Carolyn is a CPA in the state of Texas and is a member of the AICPA. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Wright State University.
Ernst & Young LLP, Quantitative Services
Ian Bradley is the Americas Director of Quantitative Services. He most recently served as the Northeast Director of Business Tax Services (BTS), the leader of our Northeast Quantitative Services practice (QS), and a Tax Account Leader (TAL). He is a tax Partner in our New York City office. Ian has served as a technical advisor, IRS exam strategist and engagement partner on a number of the firm’s largest tax engagements, and focused on the pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemicals, specialty materials, software, manufacturing, defense contracting, retail and consumer products industries. Ian has extensive IRS and state examination representation experience, and is a frequent national lecturer.
Ian is a graduate of Boston University (B.S., Business Administration), University of Connecticut School of Management (M.B.A., Accounting), and University of Connecticut School of Law (J.D., Tax). Ian is a member of the Bar in the state of Connecticut and a Certified Public Accountant in the state of New York.
Ernst & Young LLP, Tax Performance Advisory
Gary Paice is in Ernst & Young LLP’s Tax Accounting and Risk Advisory Services (TARAS) group. Within TARAS, he is a member of Tax Performance Advisory (TPA), focused on the performance enhancement of tax functions. TPA is recognized by the market as a leader in delivering tax department reengineering/process redesign services.
Gary concentrates on applying consistent methodologies, in-depth knowledge of all major tax technology tools and software packages; planning and building strong foundations in compliance and reporting, sustainable organizational strategies, and effective risk management protocols. He has experience delivering large scale projects to companies of all sizes across all aspects of the tax life cycle - planning, provision, compliance and controversy.
Gary has a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) from Western Illinois University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. He is a certified public accountant licensed in the state of Illinois, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association for Computers in Taxation (ACT).
Ernst & Young LLP, Tax Accounting and Risk Advisory Services
Joan Schumaker is a Partner in Ernst & Young LLP’s National Tax Department and is based in the New York office. She is the Americas Director of Tax Accounting and Risk Advisory Services, Ernst & Young LLP’s tax accounting services practice. Joan serves clients in numerous industries on tax accounting matters to minimize risk pertaining to ASC 740, IAS 12, share-based payments, unrecognized tax benefits, business combinations, carve-out financial statements, post-spin financial reporting, Schedule UTP disclosure of uncertain tax positions, Sarbanes-Oxley Sec. 404 and IFRS conversion. Joan is also the tax leader of our integrated tax and accounting service offerings with FAAS (Financial Accounting and Advisory Services).
Joan received her B.S. in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.B.A. in Taxation from New York University. Joan is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the states of New York, New Jersey, and Florida. She is a member of the AICPA, the NY State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Joan is a frequent speaker on tax accounting and reporting matters.
Ernst & Young LLP, Indirect Tax Services
Jane Steinmetz is a principal in Ernst & Young LLP’s Financial Services tax practice and leads the firm’s national Indirect tax practice for the financial services industry.
Jane has consulted with a diverse array of taxpayers, principally in the financial services industry, on state tax matters for 20 years. Her consultation has involved high profile controversy matters, nexus considerations, large scale compliance functions, apportionment nuances, and driving legislative state tax developments of critical importance to the industry. Jane has also served as a state tax consultant for various industry organizations such as the Associated Industry of Massachusetts, Boston Chamber of Commerce, Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, Massachusetts High Tech Council, Managed Funds Association, Investment Company Institute and National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts.
Jane earned a B.S. in accounting from Rhode Island College and her J.D and LL.M from Boston University School of Law.
EY Americas Director of Business Tax Services
Jeff Smith is Ernst & Young’s Americas Director of Business Tax Services. He has provided corporate tax services to firm clients over the last 27 years. Most recently, Jeff transferred from Chicago in 2010 to become the East Central BTS Leader, and subsequently he was given the additional responsibility of the Greater Washington Tax Market Leader. Smith has previously served as the Midwest Sub-Area BTS Leader and led the Midwest Federal and Tax Operations practices. He also served as the Tax Operations leader in the Midwest, helping small, mid-size, and Fortune 500 companies develop and refine their tax function. While a Tax Account Leader, Smith focused on a variety of private equity firms and their portfolio companies, and he co-developed a niche group that grew to become a successful combined audit/tax practice.
Jeff earned a BA in Business Administration from Alma College and an MBA from Michigan State University.
