- EY selected for its work in responding to the international migration crisis
Ernst & Young LLP is pleased to be shortlisted for a 2017 Responsible Business Award, which champions responsible business in the UK and abroad.
The EY firm was shortlisted for Business in the Community’s UPS International Disaster Relief and Resilience Award, supported by the UK Department for International Development, which recognizes business’ unique contribution to addressing international disasters and helping communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from them. The firms was selected for its work in responding to the international refugee crisis, including the development of The Global Displacement of Populations and Migration: A Clear Path Forward, thought leadership, which offers practical recommendations to help alleviate the crisis and calls on businesses to take a leadership role in offering practical support to refugees.
EY firms are supporting governments and NGOs across a number of countries in their responses, through improving the use of donor funds for asylum and migration, operational support for processing asylum applications, and resettlement and integration efforts. For example, an EY firm is coordinating a project in Germany to bring together businesses, government bodies and social groups to help refugees integrate with the workforce and rebuild their lives.
George Atalla, EY Global Government & Public Sector Leader, says:
“We are honored to be recognized for our insight, approach and practical recommendations for advising on the international refugee crisis in Europe. We are proud to be working on some of today's most challenging global issues and, in turn, creating long-term sustainable options that help strengthen our communities and contribute to building a better working world"
The shortlisting coincides with Responsible Business Week in the UK (24-28 April), an annual Business in the Community initiative aimed at increasing awareness of the positive contribution of businesses to society.
Amanda Mackenzie, Chief Executive Officer, Business in the Community, says:
“We want all businesses to be a force for good in the community, and being shortlisted means that EY can inspire many more companies to be part of the responsible business movement. Together, we can work for a fairer society and a more sustainable future.”
The winners of all ten Business in the Community 2017 award categories, including the Responsible Business of the Year, will be announced at the Responsible Business Gala Dinner at Royal Albert Hall on 4 July 2017.
