Their career paths have never veered far from horticulture, and the two sisters had amassed a combined 45 years of experience working for various agribusinesses before they teamed up in 2000 to found one of their own: Norma Agrícola Certification (NACert), a company that specializes in agricultural accreditation. After 10 years of growing the business, which took them to the foothills of the Andes, Lucía and Mercedes were selected to join the first StartUp Chile class in 2011 and even passed Endeavor Chile’s Local Selection Panel when they decided to pivot — back in the direction of their mother country and forward in the direction of modern technology.

Founder & Managing Director
Gareth Williams, Founder & Managing Director, YellowDog
Following an MEng in Information Systems Engineering from the University of Durham, Gareth Williams cut his canines working in software and telecommunications at companies that include Orange, Experian QAS, FREEDOM4 and Arieso, where he was part of the management team that completed the successful sale of the company to JDSU in March 2013 for US$85m. One day he had a brilliant idea for using spare mobile capacity that, following a chat with someone in the Animation Department at the University of the West of England, gave birth to what is now YellowDog. When not coming up with brilliant ideas, he is a dad, a keen cyclist, an ardent reader and a Samaritans Listening Volunteer. He also likes ale.
YellowDog believes that there is already enough computer power in the world. But there is an imbalance between supply and demand. Through its unique technology, YellowDog securely harnesses underutilized computer power, enabling organizations to deliver incredibly quickly and cost-effectively by leveraging this limitless computing on demand. While there are multiple markets and applications, YellowDog has started with the computer graphics and 3-D animation industry — a US$30b industry growing globally at 17.89% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). The next market YellowDog will address is enterprise data center systems and public cloud management, where the worldwide spend was US$174b in 2016.
