Ernst & Young in Kenya

HISTORY:

Ernst & Young Kenya is a successor firm to Pannel Bellhouse Mwangi which was founded in 1927 in Nakuru with a specific interest of serving the farming community in the Rift Valley. The most prominent founders of the firm were Geoffrey Bellhouse and John Mwangi. Mr. Mwangi is famous for having been the first African Chartered Accountant in East Africa, while Mr. Bellhouse was once the Mayor of Nakuru amidst his busy schedule as a practicing accountant.

The firm merged with Ernst & Whinney, a UK firm, and a local firm Cook Sutton Gathinji, to form Bellhouse Mwangi Ernst & Whinney in 1988. The firm changed its name to Bellhouse Mwangi Ernst & Young in1989 following the Global merger of Arthur Young a US based firm with Ernst & Whinney. The firm adopted the international name Ernst & Young in 1999.

Kenya’s network of Ernst & Young offices is controlled from Nairobi, which also forms the nucleus of the East African practice and ensures prompt and adequate delivery of services throughout the region. In addition, the firm has entered a service agreement with local firms in countries where offices have yet to be established. This ensures that this firm has an unrivalled presence throughout Eastern and Central Africa.
