Company History
In 1979, the company was founded by Liam’s father as a mechanical & engineering contractor. Liam’s father is an engineer and previously worked for the ESB. In 1989 Liam joined the company. In 1991, Shanahan Engineering won a service contract for the Technical Direction and Start Up of a large combined cycle power plant in the U.K., the first and largest of its type at the time. Shanahan offered the experience of operating abroad to a company that had previously been primarily focussed on the US market. In the 1990’s, Shanahan offered the ability for domestic companies in the UK, US and Japan the opportunity to operate abroad using Shanahan’s globally experienced workforce and service delivery capability. In 1993, Shanahan won their first contract from Japan. In 1998, the company opened an office in Orlando and in 2001 the company opened an office in Japan.
Shanahan Engineering has continued to expand its business internationally, setting up operations in China and Italy. In the Middle East there are existing and new opportunities for Shanahan on power projects with particular emphasis in Saudi Arabia. The company is also further expanding into the Renewable Energy sector (wind and biogas principally). Shanahan is benefiting from higher energy price movements with increased orders in the Oil & Gas services sector. Shanahan Engineering will also bid the East-West Interconnector between Ireland and the United Kingdom, and is active on new power projects in Ireland.
