press release, 28.11.2007

powiększ zdjęcie Dariusz Miłek is named the Entrepreneur of the Year 2007. The President of Grupa NG2, a leader of the Polish shoe market, has won this year’s competition organised by Ernst & Young. Today’s Final Awards Gala not only celebrated Polish entrepreneurship, but also marked the 5th anniversary of the Polish edition of the international programme Entrepreneur of the Year.

"The shoe market is like the Tour de France – the strongest are in the lead. But I hope that there will still be others to race against" declares Dariusz Miłek, the Entrepreneur of the Year 2007, a former professional cycling champion. NG2, the company owned by the main award winner, has been consistently built and successfully developed since 1996. This met with the highest recognition of the competition judges and was reflected in the verdict: "for strong and committed leadership shaped based on the sporting experience, for successful implementation of a strategy that ensured the company’s rapid growth, record profitability and the leading position in the Polish shoe market, and for an unbending will to continue the race". The Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 also won the first place among the participants of the Services Category.

As a winner of the Polish edition of the competition, Dariusz Miłek will represent Poland during the “World Entrepreneur of the Year” award ceremony to be held in Monte Carlo next year. Here are other winners of the competition:

The Entrepreneur of the Year is the only international initiative of this scale (over 10,000 candidates annually), promoting the best entrepreneurs in the world. The program, organised annually since 1986, already involves over 30 countries. In America, where the idea of the competition originated, the program is often referred to as business Oscars.
In Poland the competition has promoted entrepreneurs already for five years. Each year it involves a growing number of participants and consistently carries out a mission of presenting the public with the most valuable examples of business success. An independent judging panel, headed by Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, assesses the candidates according to their business achievements. Moreover, it takes into account the criteria, such as: entrepreneurship, strategy, international operations, innovation and relations with employees and the environment. These criteria, which are the same in all the competition organising countries, offer equal chances of winning to entrepreneurs from all over the world.

The Polish competition partners are: Fortis Bank, Gazeta Wyborcza, Harvard Business Review, TVN24 and the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Additionally, New Connect was the partner of this year’s Final Awards Gala.
