Ernst & Young personalizes the job search for Gen Y with new interactive careers web site

Redesigned Careers web site features in-depth videos, photos, and personal journals as part of firm’s effort to recruit close to 10,000 employees in 2008

New York (March 19, 2008) — As part of Ernst & Young LLP’s ongoing focus to recruit a broad talent base of approximately 10,000 employees this year, the firm has launched EY Insight, a fully interactive careers web site experience that provides engaging, personalized tools for prospective employees. EY Insight can be viewed at www.ey.com/eyinsight/index.html.

The newly designed site was developed specifically for college students in response to their feedback on what they’d like to see on the firm’s careers web site. The firm plans to enhance the careers website again later this year after obtaining feedback from experienced hires, and is launching the new site now to help give it an edge during the crucial spring recruiting season.

“Our job seekers expect to see real examples of what a career in professional services is really like. This ‘Generation Y’ audience is increasingly exposed to highly personal media like YouTube and reality television, and they expect the same level of reality from their employers. We developed EY Insight to give them that,” said Melissa Taylor, Recruiting Branding & Communications Leader. “The features and tools we’ve developed for EY Insightare unlike any in the profession and demonstrate the flexibility, opportunities, and guidance college students will receive as full-time employees.”

The EY Insight careers web site is a suite of three tools designed to provide: in-depth views of Ernst & Young employees and the culture at the organization; a comprehensive overview of Ernst & Young’s practice areas and opportunities available to job seekers based on their background and interests; and information on how to prepare for an interview. Features include:

EY 360◦ This unique tool provides real stories and first-hand insight from employees on who they are and what they do, both inside and outside of the office. EY 360◦ includes “Day in the Life” and “Year in the Life” milestones captured through in-depth videos, personal photos and personal journals. The employees profiled represent a variety of the organization’s practice areas and experience levels, with the goal of providing a sense of what it’s like to work and have a personal life at Ernst & Young. To access this tool, visit www.ey.com/us/ey360.

Picture yourself Enables students to enter information on their academic background and interests, and generates customized results of relevant career opportunities. This tool provides students with a great opportunity to explore the company’s practices and better understand what Ernst & Young has to offer, as well as see how to apply a current major to actual work at Ernst & Young. Interview Insider An interactive toolkit that helps students prepare for the process of interviewing for their first job. The toolkit is comprised of three basic sections:
  • The Prep Zone – This section is a “one-stop shop” for interview resources. Prep Zone includes the following sections:
    • Video gallery — Ernst & Young employees sharing their personal interview experiences and providing interview advice and stories. It also contains humorous outtakes taken while filming the people profiled in EY Insight.
    • The 3 P’s of interviewing — Advice on the must do’s and do not’s of interviewing are highlighted here, spanning from preparation all the way through game day.
    • The Inside Scoop — A section dedicated to providing sample interview questions and more information on the interview process at Ernst & Young.
  • EY info-to-Go – A gallery of key brochures about Ernst & Young, its practices and programs. The company’s brochures are all housed here for candidates to read or print in preparation for an interview.
  • News feed – A quick and easy-to-install RSS feed that allows students to sign up for syndication of Ernst & Young news. The EY RSS feed is easy to add to an existing RSS reader. The firm also provides instructions for those who don’t currently have an RSS reader set up. To access this tool, visit www.ey.com/us/interviewinsider.

The launch of EY Insight is the latest in several steps by the firm to better connect with Gen Y recruits, which will represent more than half the firm’s workforce by 2010. Other initiatives include the 2006 introduction of the first-ever corporate-sponsored recruiting page on Facebook and internal workshops to enhance communication among the three generations of employees who work at the firm. Last fall, Ernst & Young also introduced a video competition called “Reel Influence” among college students. The winning videos are available at www.ey.com/us/reelinfluence.
