EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ 2015 Category Winners Announced
Five of New Zealand’s top entrepreneurs have been named as category winners in this country’s most prestigious business awards, the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year.
The five are:
- Craig Hickson (Progressive Meats) Category: Products
- John Wikstrom (Magic Memories) Category: Services
- Hamish Kennedy (Compac) Category: Technology and emerging industries
- Chris Heaslip and Eliot Crowther (Pushpay) Category: Young
- Wayne Wright (BestStart) Category: Master
Chairman of the judging panel, Greg Cross from PowerbyProxi, says four of the five category winners are long-term entrepreneurs who have spent 20 to 30 years building up their entrepreneurial careers. The fifth – the Young category winners – are “doing an amazing job” building a product for a niche market in the US.
“Getting this year’s finalists down to the top five was very difficult,” Cross says. “It was not a short debate. In the end, it came down to longevity and the scale of their businesses.”
EY New Zealand Entrepreneur Of The Year awards director, Jon Hooper, says the category winners have all built substantial businesses, both domestically and internationally.
“In building these businesses, they have each found a way to take traditional industries or businesses and innovate, either with new business models or new technology. In doing so, each has created long-term sustainable growth and enhanced our economic viability.”
The five category winners will appear before the judging panel again on 14 October when an overall winner will be chosen to represent New Zealand at EY’s World Entrepreneur Of The Year™ event in Monaco next June when the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year will be chosen.
New Zealand’s EY Entrepreneur Of The Year will be announced at an awards dinner in Auckland on 15 October.
