Sixteen of New Zealand’s top entrepreneurs have reached the finals of this country’s most prestigious business awards, the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™.

EY New Zealand Entrepreneur Of The Year awards director, Jon Hooper, describes this year’s finalists as “incredible entrepreneurs” from all walks of life and from a diverse range of industries.

“When you look at this year’s entrants, you see that life as an entrepreneur is not linear,” he says.

“Many have come from corporate backgrounds and transitioned into their current roles. The lesson for the next generation of entrepreneurs is that there is no set formula for success. But the common theme is that they are all passionate about their businesses and many have achieved consistent double-digit growth in difficult economic times.”

The finalists are:

  • Alan Clarke (Abano Healthcare Group)
  • Chris Dobbs (Working Style)
  • Dawn Engelbrecht (Safe Kids In Daily Supervision)
  • Gavin M Faull (Swiss-Bellhotel International)
  • Kat Gee (Kagi)
  • Dr Sam Hazledine (MedRecruit)
  • Craig Heatley (founder Rainbow Corporation and Sky Network Television)
  • Cilla Hegarty (NZ Tax Refunds)
  • Elizabeth Hines (Spaceworks Design Group)
  • Scott Houston (GreenButton)
  • Maria Johnson (Little School)
  • Tami Louisson (SHOTT)
  • Jan Meyer (Rutherford & Meyer)
  • Barry Payne (BayCity Communications)
  • Brent Robinson (Rakon)
  • Simon Thwaites (Silvermoon)

Category winners will be announced on 27 August.

New Zealand’s EY Entrepreneur Of The Year will be announced at an awards banquet in Auckland on Thursday 18 October.
