EY is extending its range of services by acquiring MillionYou, a leader in the crowdsourcing market in Poland. Clients will benefit from the singular added value of EY sector and business knowledge combined with the unlimited possibilities offered by crowdsourcing, which generates innovative ideas within the framework of dedicated communities. The new tool will give EY clients, both entrepreneurs and organizations, new and non-standard creative forms of searching for innovation, communicating with the environment, and transforming their organizations.

Crowdsourcing assigns specific tasks to a large but defined group of people which, combined with methodology and technology ensuring the scale of the operation, leads to an unlimited number of ideas coming from different sources in a short period of time. Engaging non-standard consumer groups or communities increases the chances of developing new innovative ideas and reaching breakthrough solutions.

Crowdsourcing helps companies deal with the challenges they and their brands face, challenges also faced by self-governing and citizen groups today. It assists in searching for non-standard innovative ideas, developing new products, co-creating with consumers, communicating the brand and tasks within the frame of corporate social responsibility, as well as building dedicated communities around ideas.

- Companies are under the constant pressure from both consumers expecting an increasingly individual approach and innovative start-ups whose breakthrough technology ideas or business models enable quicker and more effective identification of needs and discovery of solutions. EY has long helped clients meet new challenges. Now it will be able to offer an extra tool for collecting unique information from a given organization's environment, leading to even more pertinent recommendations concerning strategy and courses of action – says Jacek Kędzior, Managing Partner at EY Polska.

The EY crowdsourcing offer is addressed foremost to companies and self-governing units aimed at replacing a traditional approach to projects with direct engagement of stakeholders – clients, employees, and various communities – in the creation of new solutions. Crowdsourcing offers an alternative for traditional models of solution searching in business, and in self-governing and non-profit organizations. This method of consultation combined with the creative application of novel technologies helps to define issues and challenges, and to find the most creative responses.

MillionYou Creative, which EY Poland has acquired, is Poland's first agency specializing in crowdsourcing, open innovation, and smart city methods. This gives it an edge by ensuring a more comprehensive offer compared to other agencies in the field. MillionYou has carried out more than 100 projects in different sectors: FMCG, financial, transport, technology, healthcare, and also the public sector, engaging about 50,000 people in its projects and dedicated communities.

Acquiring MillionYou has given EY an experienced team of experts as well as the MillionYou proprietary crowdsourcing platform.

- Joining forces with EY has given us the opportunity to use our experience and know-how on a much larger scale. Together we can give clients full service, from preparing innovation implementation strategies, through co-creating ideas with stakeholders inside and outside the organization, to consulting the application of developed solutions. Crowdsourcing and open innovation increase the chances for clients to develop groundbreaking solutions; build relations with consumers, employees and partners; and benefit from the potential, know-how, and capital in their organization. The challenges of building a dedicated community concern mostly ways of nucleating this community around a project, idea, or task. The issue is motivating the community to act and triggering idea creation possible only with modern technologies. This is the model that leads to open innovation and a creative exchange of ideas – says Jan Kasprzycki-Rosikoń, MillionYou co-founder, EY Crowdsourcing Director.

Crowdsourcing services will broaden the EY offer, making it a complete and effective way of meeting clients’ needs and addressing the challenges before them.

- Many companies still fail to see the benefits of crowdsourcing. Gartner predicted that 75% of high-performing enterprises will use crowdsourcing in some form by 2018. Being able to collect and analyze extensive sets of significant data directly from clients, employees, and suppliers opens the way to experiments with identifying small ideas that, once implemented, generate meaningful innovation and translate into greater effectiveness or reduced operating costs – explains Piotr Piela, Managing Partner, EY Business Advisory Department.

Using the MillionYou platform, which will now be open to EY clients, gives a number of opportunities, in the strategic, creative, promotional, and HR fields, among others.

What is crowdsourcing

Crowdsourcing is a term born from the merger of the concepts of ‘crowd’ and ‘outsourcing’. The process outsources specific challenges to a broad, yet specific group of people. Today it responds to challenges faced by global companies and brands searching for innovative solutions, new product development, co-creation with consumers, and brand communication and activities within the CSR framework. Often referred to as the "wisdom of crowds", crowdsourcing can generate an unlimited number of ideas given its methodology and technology which ensure operation on a large scale. At the same time, it increases the opportunities brands have for developing breakthrough solutions. It offers an alternative for traditional ways of finding solutions for businesses, and self-governing and non-profit organizations. Crowdsourcing has already been used worldwide in building cities, creating laws, and completing medical research, among others.
