Accelerate programme 2012 launchAccelerate
Find out about Accelerate, a learning programme for young business leaders and social entrepreneurs.

EY is well known in the marketplace as a friend to entrepreneurs. We have helped many of the world’s most dynamic young companies grow into industry leaders, and working with and supporting entrepreneurs has given us a profound understanding of the value of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs create jobs, transform communities and industries, and contribute to economic growth.

We encourage our people to donate their skills to support entrepreneurs at a grass roots level.  In particular:

Supporting social enterprises
In recognition of the additional value to society that social enterprises and entrepreneurs bring, we focus on this sector. We recognise and champion leading social enterprises through our Social Enterprise Entrepreneur category of our Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.  We also provide support to growing social enterprises by partnering with charities such as Unltd and the Social Business Trust:

UnLtd is a charity supporting people with vision, drive, commitment and passion who want to effect change for the better. Through UnLtd we provide specialist advice on a wide range of business issues including developing pricing structures, monitoring impact, and diversifying income streams. Together with funding from UnLtd, our advice provides a structured support package to social enterprises enabling them to grow and make a larger positive difference to their communities.

Social Business Trust is a partnership of six world class businesses, including EY, which use their combined resources and experience to help accelerate the growth of social enterprises, generating increased social impact and sustainable, positive change. The strength of the scheme comes from a combination of the partners’ commercial and industrial talent advising thousands of businesses in the commercial sector, an understanding of the needs and sensitivities of social enterprises, operational expertise, and access to growth capital. Its ambition is to help transform the impact of social enterprises and improve the lives of over a million of the UK’s most disadvantaged people.
Young entrepreneurs
We are committed to supporting young people in thinking entrepreneurially and setting up in business. This begins at school, but we also support those facing significant challenges in their lives.

Education: Our award winning Education Partnership Programme helps in a number of ways, such as volunteering in our partner schools. These programmes are designed to help equip the future business generation with the skills, knowledge and aspirations necessary for business success.

The Prince’s Trust:  Around one in five young people in the UK are not in work, education or training. Youth unemployment costs the UK economy £10 million a day in lost productivity, while youth crime costs £1 billion every year.  The Prince’s Trust addresses this by giving practical and financial support to young people who need it most. It helps develop key skills, confidence and motivation, enabling young people to move into work, education or training. This includes the Enterprise Programme which provides money and support to help young people start up in business.

The Bright Ideas Trust provides a package of business support to 16-30 year olds in London who are currently not in employment, education or training (NEET) or from socially excluded groups looking to start their own business.

Entrepreneurially thinking charities
Many charities are making a significant contribution to young people not in education, employment or training.  We support those that want to think entrepreneurially and make a significant change.

Private Equity Foundation’s core mission is to reduce the number of young people who fall into the  NEET category so they can reach their full potential. It recognises that young people face a journey from birthplace to workplace with numerous obstacles preventing them from reaching their full potential.  It supports children and young people early on and throughout the critical school years. By offering a safety net of interventions throughout a young person’s life, it provides the support disadvantaged children need to thrive in life and work and reach their full potential. It does this by providing funds and business expertise to selected charities.
