Guy Turnbull, CASA

Care & Share Associates (CASA) is an employee owned social enterprise that delivers over 18,000 hours of domiciliary health and social care per week.

Guy founded CASA in 2004 on the basic premise – employee ownership generates greater employee engagement which delivers higher quality care. CASA has transformed from a new start social franchise to a single £11m social enterprise in 2016. Guy’s view on life is ‘actions usually speak louder than words’.

William Chase, Chase Distillery

Chase Distillery is Britain’s first and only single estate distillery producing the very finest white spirits.

William is a Herefordshire farmer entrepreneur and is the founder of Tyrrells potato chips, Chase Distillery and his most recently formed venture, Willy Chase’s Fitfood. Thomas Fleming, Dealogic

Dealogic is a financial markets platform company. Thomas is the Chief Executive Officer of Dealogic. Thomas co-founded CommScan LLC, a predecessor to Dealogic, in 1991. He became Chief Executive Officer in 2004. Previously Thomas was a Managing Director at Graphic Scanning Corp, a wireless communications business. He has a finance degree from St. Bonaventure University and holds an MBA from Pace University. Thomas is also a certified public accountant.

Jeremy Taylor and Mark Jones, Green Frog Power

Green Frog Power builds power stations. Founded by Mark and Jeremy in 2010, they have since commissioned more new gas-fuelled generating capacity than any other British company. They are currently developing the world’s most advanced small nuclear reactor with the South Korean government’s nuclear entity and undertaking final proving tests of a ground-breaking carbon-fibre turbine.

Kym Denny, hVIVO

hVIVO is a life sciences company pioneering a technology platform of human disease models to accelerate drug development and discovery in respiratory and infectious diseases.

Heather Penn and John Penn, SSE Audio Group

SSE Audio Group’s business is the hire, sales, installation and manufacture of professional audio systems.

John and Heather founded SSE Audio Group in 1976 when they were both students in Nottingham. Their diverse activities range from hiring PA systems for tours such as Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, and One Direction, and events including Reading, Download and the Papal visit, to designing and installing sound systems for stadia, theatres, nightclubs, churches, schools, museums and visitor attractions.

Chris Gauld, Spark Energy

Spark Energy are the leading energy supplier for tenants across the UK.

While at Grant Property Chris was exposed to the cost and hassle experienced by agents and tenants with the ‘Big 6’ energy companies. Spark was born in 2007 with a team of three to disrupt the incumbents and provide a better service. Chris started building sales before creating teams and structures to grow operations and eventually completing debt and equity rounds to support what is now a £130m turnover business with over 350 employees. Chris completed an MBO of the business in August 2016.

Nicholas Oughtred, William Jackson Food Group

The William Jackson Food Group is a family business founded in Hull in 1851. It comprises of a portfolio of food businesses: Aunt Bessie’s, famous for its Yorkshire Puddings, potatoes and traditional English fare, Abel and Cole which is an organic home delivery business, MyFresh which processes salad and vegetables for retailers, restaurants and food manufacturers, Jacksons which manufactures most of the sandwich bread in the UK as well as the Yorkshire Champion bread and The Food Doctor which provides a range of healthy snacks.

The current Chairman is Nicholas Oughtred, a fifth generation family member and there are two members of the next generation who serve as family non executive directors on the Board.

WorldRemit is an online service that lets people send money to friends and family living abroad, using a computer, smartphone or tablet.

Ismail has more than 20 years experience in international remittances. He was a compliance advisor at the United Nations Development Programme and consultant to money transfer companies prior to launching WorldRemit. He has a PhD from the University of London and MBA from London Business School.

David McDonald and Theo Duchen, Acturis

Acturis is the leading provider of software as a service to the UK insurance industry. David and Theo are two former McKinsey partners. David is a CA, won the Scottish Institute’s Gold Medal when he qualified in 1987 and holds an MBA from INSEAD. He spent ten years at McKinsey in London and New York where he led the e-commerce practice. Theo is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and a graduate of the University of Cape Town. He spent ten years at McKinsey in London where he helped to create the South African practice and led McKinsey’s UK insurance practice.

Luke Lang and Darren Westlake, Crowdcube

Darren is Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Crowdcube. Luke is one of the world’s leading experts on crowdfunding and alternative finance. Anthony is the Chief Executive Officer of graze.com. He has a masters in chemistry from Oxford University and a masters in radiopharmaceutical research from Princeton University. Anthony always harboured the ambition to be an entrepreneur and working in a lab was never going to be fast-paced or creative enough for him. Anthony’s career began at Innocent Drinks where after three years he became their Innovation Manager. Under Anthony’s leadership graze. com snacks are now stocked in over 4,000 stores nationwide including Tesco, WHSmith, Boots, Waitrose, Asda and Sainsbury’s.

Henrietta is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Lily’s Kitchen. Henrietta set up the business almost eight years ago after her dog, Lily, became ill. In 2015 Lily’s Kitchen became a Founding member of B-Corp in the UK and was recently awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation. The brand was named Sunday Times Best Emerging Brand of the Year 2016. In 2016 Lily’s Kitchen gave away a million meals to dogs and cats in shelters.

Justine Roberts, Mumsnet

Justine is Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Mumsnet, an online community. Mumsnet is the UK’s largest network for parents, with over 9.4 million unique visitors per month clocking up over 91 million page views. Over the last 16 years it has grown into the UK’s busiest and most influential network for parents.

Husayn Kassai, Onfido

Onfido delivers next-generation background checks, helping businesses verify anyone across the world within seconds.

Husayn is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Onfido and the one responsible for setting the overall direction and strategy for the company. Previously, Husayn was the President of Oxford Entrepreneurs, the world’s largest student-run entrepreneurship society aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs. Husayn studied Economics and Management at Oxford University.

Ryan Kohn and Cassandra Stavrou, PROPERCORN

Cassandra and Ryan are the 32 year-old co-founders of PROPERCORN, the UK’s fastest growing popcorn brand. Starting out in Cassandra’s kitchen, the pair now lead a team of 40, selling more than three million packs of their award-winning popcorn per month in ten countries.

The company’s first stockist was Google HQ in 2011 and has been followed in quick succession by an impressive portfolio of retailers including Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s. Turning over £10m in their fourth year of business, PROPERCORN has enjoyed phenomenal momentum and cut-through in the wider snacking category, from a standing start against some of the UK’s most well-established snack brands.

At just 35, Naser registered his first healthcare company and acquired a care home for the elderly which was valued at £500k with 22 staff. He founded St George Healthcare Group which comprises of three hospitals and a domiciliary care agency with a further two hospitals under construction.

St George Healthcare Group is now valued at £54m and employs over 400 staff.

Matt Turner, tastecard

tastecard is the UK’s number one Diners’ Club, offering 50% off or 2-for-1 deals at 6,500 restaurants.

Matt is Group Chief Executive Officer of The Dining Club Group, which comprises the two largest diners’ clubs in the world, tastecard (which he founded) and The Gourmet Society. Leading an over 140 strong team across two sites, the business has over four million members, in excess of 10,000 restaurants, and an annual turnover of £20m.

Matthew Hirst, Utiligroup

Utiligroup is a market leading technology platform powering the future of the energy market towards ‘Energy 2.0’, through innovation and inspiration.

Timothy Cornelius, Atlantis Resources

Atlantis is the world’s leading developer of tidal power projects and tidal turbine generation equipment.

Tim is credited with growing Atlantis from a small start-up nine years ago into the world’s leading tidal power developer with a global project pipeline in excess of 1000MW. Its flagship project, MeyGen, is the largest tidal stream project under construction in the world and has become an economic engine for growth in the North of Scotland. Tim has driven technological and regulatory innovation in the sector, becoming a key public figurehead for ‘wet’ renewables globally whilst constantly promoting Britain’s ability to re-establish itself as global centre for engineering excellence.

Amy Livingstone and Julie Wilson, Cheeky Chompers

Cheeky Chompers design and manufacture baby products with an innovative twist.

Amy and Julie met at an antenatal class and spotted a gap in the market for a teether attached to the baby. Starting the company in August 2012, they then launched their innovative Neckerchew ‘The World’s first chewable dribble bib for teething tots, in February 2013. They now have four stylish attachable baby products, have sold over 880,000 products, have distributors in 34 countries and are in many national retailers including MandS, John Lewis, Boots and Joules.

Alastair Atkinson, DySIS Medical

DySIS Medical is a medical device company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets imaging systems focusing on the non-invasive, in-vivo detection of cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions.

Alastair has been Chief Executive Officer since 2006, leading the company from a University spin-out to a high growth business serving the UK and US with direct sales teams. The DySIS colposcope has been clinically proven to detect pre-cancerous lesions more accurately and earlier than conventional methods. Approved by NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) as being “both clinically effective and cost-effective”, DySIS is being used in around 25% of NHS Hospitals and is recognised by the National Screening Committee. Now the subject of the largest ever clinical trial on cervical cancer screening to have been undertaken in the US, early results are showing that DySIS detects 44% more women with early stages of cervical cancer than current methods. After three years of triple digit growth percentages, the company is launching new products and expanding geographical distribution of DySIS into the Middle East, Turkey and Russia.

Nigel was a co-founder of Stream in 2000. Stream's technology innovations are now enabling the growth of billions of connected IoT devices that will make a substantial positive difference to citizens and environments worldwide. Organisational culture, strategic patience, and vision clarity and execution are entrepreneurial attributes the Nigel believes critical to organisational success.

Douglas Samuel, The Spartans Community Football Academy

The Spartans Community Football Academy is a social enterprise that uses sport to deliver social change.

Douglas started on the Academy Project as a consultant before becoming Business Development Manager in 2007 and subsequently Chief Executive Officer. Prior to this he was at Standard Life for 21 years in various management and leadership roles. Outside the world of Business he has been Head and Assistant Football Coach for various Scottish National Teams, Head Coach at The University of Edinburgh for nine seasons and Spartans FC for the last four seasons.

Dr Mick Jackson, WildHearts Group

WildHearts is a leading B2B social business who’s founding ethos is “Business for Good”.

Richard Forsyth, Forsyth's

Richard is the 3rd generation to run The Forsyths Group. With his son now Managing Director, Richard is passionate about his history and community and is happy to admit that a lot of the time he allows his heart to rule his head.
