Our Reward services help clients address the range of issues that are associated with reward strategies, talent programs and maintaining workforce effectiveness. To reach its potential, an organization must continuously improve its performance — and sustain that improvement. We can help clients optimize these particular business areas by looking at the entire lifecycle of a mobile workforce from advice on recruitment (use of employees, contractors, etc.), to the provision of benefits to their employees, executive compensation, as well as advising them on all employee reward and employment tax compliance aspects in the UK and globally. We combine providing advice to clients around tax efficiencies such as share schemes and salary sacrifice, with assistance in ensuring global compliance with the increasing tax and related regulation around the world.

Our Reward team operates within four separate specialisms:

  • Executive Compensation and Reward (ECR)
  • Global Employment Tax Services (GETS)
  • Stock and Mobility Services (SMS)
  • Global Equity

As a new graduate or school leaver, you will have the opportunity to work in all of these skills areas, before specialising as you become more senior.

Executive Compensation and Reward (ECR)

The ECR team focuses on helping clients with their overall reward strategy. Business reward their employees in a variety of way including salary, cash bonuses, awards of shares and non-cash benefits such as cars. An ECR professional advises clients on the most effective way to use rewards to maximise business performance. This may include advising remuneration committees on setting executive compensation levels, director remuneration reporting, or advising management on all employee reward.

This is an area of growing interest to clients and governments alike in which an understanding of client’s businesses is crucial. Typical work could include gathering data to determine the salary of the CEO of a company or helping to construct a Long Term Incentive Plan to reward employees’ performance.

Global Employment Tax Services (GETS)

With employee income and benefits being an area everyone can relate to, GETS is a great place to start your career in tax. Compared to other roles GETS is extremely people orientated so getting out, meeting clients and developing relationships is an essential part of the job.

As part of the GETS team you will be meeting clients regularly to discuss their employment tax challenges. The work is project based and may include carrying out a due diligence on an industry leading company: reviewing their compliance to legislation and HMRC guidance, or looking at implementing a salary sacrifice scheme in which employees exchange part of their salary for non-taxable benefits such as pension contributions, which can provide cost savings for a company.

Stock and Mobility Services (SMS)

The SMS team assist employers with their global tax obligations arising from equity/share based remuneration paid to employees. Where long term incentive remuneration is paid to individuals who have worked in more than one country, the SMS team pull in data from a variety of sources including legislation, tax treaties and personal mobility data in order to provide accurate tax withholding calculations within the tight deadlines that clients require. Within the SMS team, you will acquire unique opportunities to develop global tax knowledge and build a strong network globally within EY.

Within SMS, you will experience a rapid build-up in tax technical knowledge, IT skills and attendance at client facing meetings. As we use EY proprietary software, there is also potential to assist on logic coding the tax rules underpinning the SMS system.

Global Equity

Share based remuneration provides businesses with a key method of aligning the goals of employees and their shareholders. Company share schemes are the subject of significant legislation in the UK and overseas which leads to significant compliance challenges for employers, particularly where a share based awards are taxable in more than one country as a result of an employee’s mobility.

As a Global Equity professional you will meet regularly with your clients in order to help them understanding how their share based awards provided to employees are taxed in the UK and overseas jurisdictions. The work is highly technical and may include assisting clients with reporting on activity under share plans, advising a business on the effect of restructuring their business (such as merger or acquisition) on their employees’ share based awards or performing due diligence on the taxability of a client’s share award schemes across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities:

As a Consultant, you will be a key resource on business transformation projects. In this role, you should be able to deliver quality client service, analyse complex problems and deliver insightful solutions.  You will also be expected to have excellent communication skills, integrate into new teams and rapidly establish relationships. What training and development will I receive in my first few years?

In addition to on-the-job coaching, you will receive formal training relevant to your development in your chosen Business Unit. To help you achieve your career goals, you’ll be assigned a personal counsellor and receive the encouragement of, and exposure to, senior members of our organisation. This will allow you to shape your career and achieve your potential. After two years you will join one of the competency teams that you have worked with as you look to build your career at EY.
