EY Head of Retail comments on the ONS retail figures

Julie Carlyle, Head of Retail at EY, comments on the ONS retail figures published today:

“Although today’s figures provide optimism, the environment continues to remain challenging and retailers must avoid complacency. Despite the boost from the late Easter, the retail recovery - especially for food - is fragile with the majority of consumers continuing to focus on value for money and promotions. In this competitive environment, retailers most likely to succeed will be those who can combine a relevant and differentiated offer with the ability to provide a seamless multichannel experience."
