Responding to the Government’s housing white paper, Russell Gardner, head of real estate at EY, said:

“Despite raised hopes of truly radical reform, today’s white paper represents a timid response to a universally recognised housing crisis.

“This was an opportunity to address restrictive planning regulations and unlock the potential for development that would make a true and lasting impact in tackling the UK’s crippling shortage of homes.

“While there are many positives in the paper, it could have gone further. Housing targets may appear admirable but it is vital that the necessary reforms and mechanisms are put in place to allow those targets to become a reality.”
