Tony Ward, Partner
Head of Power & Utilities for UK&I

Tony has 20 years’ experience in the sector and is responsible for the renowned estimate of £200bn necessary investment for the UK to deliver its proposed low carbon future.

Tony's focus is primarily on power generation and its critical role in delivering affordable, reliable, environmentally sound power as an economic enabler in both developed and developing nations.

His experience ranges from policy and strategic advisory work for government and investors, through a specific focus on nuclear generation, to previous responsibility for auditing the UK’s electricity trading arrangements.

Tony is a chartered accountant with 30 years’ experience in the professional services environment.

Ben Warren, Partner
Head of Energy & Environmental Finance

Ben has global responsibility for Transaction Advisory Services provided to the environmental sector.

The Environmental Finance Team provides Government procurement and policy advice, project finance, and mergers and acquisitions advice to governments, investors and project developers in the energy, waste and water sector, and finance raising and M&A advice to clients in the cleantech sector.

Ben has 15 years’ experience advising clients on funding solutions and corporate finance across EMEIA, the US and Asia.

He is author of our Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Indices and has published a large number of articles covering all aspects of Renewable Energy and Environmental Finance.

Ben has a BA in accounting and law, and is ACMA qualified.

Andy Brogan, Partner
Global Oil & Gas Transactions Leader

Andy is responsible for our transaction advisory services to the global oil industry. He has been with EY for twenty years, during which time he has worked on a wide range Acquisition, Divestment and IPO projects across the Energy sector. Andy has advised oil and gas companies on a variety of public and private transactions covering both upstream and downstream operations in over 20 countries.

Andy has a BSc in Biochemistry from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine (London) and is a UK Chartered Accountant.

Matthew Carter, Partner
Head of Infrastructure Transactions Group

Matthew has been at EY for 22 years spending the last 20 years specialising in corporate finance, and the last 10 years focusing on the Infrastructure sector, working with a large number of Infrastructure funds and other investors across a variety of sectors and geographies. He has also completed a secondment to the Corporate Finance Department of a major listed UK Plc allowing him to add real commercial insight to the advice he gives.

He has extensive experience of both private and public transactions, as well as of delivering complex and high profile transactions. He has a significant amount of experience in providing acquisition and vendor due diligence advice to clients undertaking transactions across the Infrastructure and energy sectors and has performed reviews within the water, gas, electricity and renewable energy sectors.

Matthew has led a significant number of transactions across the utilities and infrastructure sectors including in respect of:

  • Water – 20+ reviews of businesses in the UK water sector, as well as reviews of water businesses within Europe and S America
  • Electricity – reviews of distribution, transmission and generation businesses including renewables (such as landfill gas, wind (on and off-shore), solar and biomass)
  • Gas – reviews of distribution business, connection and metering businesses
  • Airports – the review of airport, and airport service businesses, located across the UK, Europe, North America, South America and Asia
  • Ports – reviews of ports located across the UK and Europe
  • Rail – the review of a number of Rolling Stock Leasing businesses located in the UK, as well as high speed service providers and train / freight operating businesses
  • Other infrastructure – across assets such as telecom towers and masts, pipeline and storage, and PPP / PFI portfolios

Lee Downham, Partner
Lead Partner, Global Mining & Metals - Transaction Advisory Services

Lee is the Global Lead Partner in EY’s Mining Transaction Advisory Services practice. Lee has advised on a number of main board London listings in the mining sector in recent years and continues to advise companies looking to raise capital in London and elsewhere.

He has led EY teams in providing support on numerous acquisitions in the sector, leading a broad range of financial, commercial and tax diligence assignments as well as managing divestment programmes, synergy reviews and bid-defence strategies.
