Creating a responsible and sustainable business

While our business is all about delivering exceptional service to our clients, we know that if we attract and retain the best people – and invest in them – we will deliver the best results. We pride ourselves on having the highest performing teams and want to be a highly inclusive organization that creates an engaging environment where our people can develop to their full potential.

We want to be the organization that whenever an individual joins, however long they stay, the exceptional EY experience lasts a lifetime.

Community engagement is an important part of that experience, but we don't simply provide an extra pair of hands. We contribute more to our communities and give our people more meaningful experiences by tapping into our professional skills and capabilities. Our people serve on not-for-profit boards, support schools, mentor students, assist high-impact entrepreneurs and strive to reduce our environmental footprint.

Skills-based volunteering: a way to grow great leaders

EY considers community engagement a key professional development experience. For example, being a mentor or tutor for underserved youth helps professionals become more inclusive leaders. Planning and executing a volunteer event provides opportunities to build skills in project management, and joining a not-for-profit board is a way to expand and deepen one’s professional network.

Americas focus organizations: a three-dimensional relationship

EY firms have designated a select number of not-for-profits as focus organizations where their personnel make a differential investment by:

  • Serving on not-for-profit boards
  • Contributing time through skills-based volunteering
  • Making financial contributions

In the US, these include: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs, Junior Achievement, Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, and the United Way.

Embedding corporate responsibility in our major events

Events and meetings are part of our working lives at EY. New hires attend a Welcome to EY program, interns participate in the International Intern Leadership Conference, seniors attend training events in their regions or service lines and promotions to manager, senior manager and director are marked by "Milestone" meetings focused on leadership development. At all of these events, our people hear about and experience firsthand the organization’s values and strategy — including our commitment to corporate responsibility. At each meeting we strive to reduce our environmental impact and incorporate an element of giving back to the community into the program.

Read more about this commitment in our publication, High-impact meetings: think corporate responsibility.

EY Connect Day: a day of community and connections

EY Connect Day is our annual day of service. In communities across the US, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Central America and South America, teams of EY professionals volunteer their time to tutor students, clean up parks and beaches, and mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs. We contribute more than 60,000 hours annually through EY Connect Day, which helps us to strengthen existing community relationships and form new ones.

Community Engagement Champions across the Americas

To help make corporate responsibility an integral part of our business, each EY region has a Community Engagement Leader, who connects our people to volunteer activities and takes the lead in building strong community relationships. Each region also has a Community Engagement Champion, who helps to drive our corporate responsibility strategy locally.

Please note: EY does not accept unsolicited requests for funding or volunteer engagements.
