Ernst & Young LLP (EY) announced today Karen Gilbreath Sowell has been appointed to lead the New York State Bar Association Tax Section (NYSBATS).

Sowell is Co-Leader of Mergers and Acquisitions Group and serves as National Tax Director of Global Accounts, advising some of the firm’s most prominent clients on how to structure tax-efficient acquisitions and dispositions. In addition to her career at EY, Sowell was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury from 2007 to 2009, and Associate Tax Legislative Counsel and Attorney-Advisor from 1997 to 2001.

"Her position helps advance our collective efforts to build a better working world, one where all of our people can contribute to the firm and their professional communities.”

NYSBATS is a well-regarded organization recognized for its prolific, insightful reports on a variety of tax issues. This year, NYSBATS anticipates it will author many reports to help the government interpret and administer the new provisions enacted in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act bill.
