Your Master Plan

Why should your learning stop after graduation? We can help you pursue a graduate degree and gain hands-on paid work experience at the same time. Ernst & Young’s Your Master Plan (YMP) allows you to earn a master’s of accountancy degree from a top university while working for one of the world’s leading professional services firms. And, we’ll cover all costs associated with tuition, books, room and board, and transportation.

If that sounds too good to be true, rest assured it’s not. We created YMP because we need you—a talented individual who can bring a diverse background of experiences and thought to our firm. And the program offers you a wealth of benefits. You’ll align yourself with Ernst & Young as well as with two highly acclaimed schools, the University of Notre Dame and the University of Virginia. Your graduate program, designed primarily for non-accounting business majors, will include a customized curriculum that meets the CPA requirements of most states.

After completing your first summer session, you’ll get a full-time salaried position at Ernst & Young, gaining an unmatched opportunity to advance your career, develop valuable professional relationships and work with clients to help their businesses thrive.

How the program works
Applying to YMP is simple. First, make sure you qualify. You’re eligible if you have a non-accounting business degree (finance, economics, management or management information systems) and a superior academic record. Next, once you’ve accepted an offer from Ernst & Young, apply for admission into one of our YMP universities. Once the university notifies you that you’re accepted, your course of study will comprise:
  • An intensive six-week accounting immersion course at your assigned university before your first summer session
  • Two full-time summer sessions (five to 12 weeks) over 15 months either at the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business or the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce
  • One distance-learning course in the fall while working as a Staff 1 audit professional in our Assurance practice
  • A return to your university for the second summer session to complete your master’s of accountancy degree and graduate
  • Resumption of work as a staff auditor in your local office after the second summer session to gain the experience needed for taking the CPA exam
What we offer
When you join our team, you’ll enjoy a work environment that is world-renowned for its inclusiveness, diversity, commitment to lifelong learning and career development, and respect for every individual’s talents and perspectives. In addition, you’ll receive the financial, emotional and logistical support you need to succeed at YMP. Here’s what you can expect from us:
  • Paid tuition, room and board at either Notre Dame or the University of Virginia
  • A YMP mentor at the university and a career counselor at Ernst & Young
  • A $1,000/month stipend during the first summer university session
  • Reimbursement for one CPA review course and one exam sitting fee for each section
  • Travel expenses for a trip home (or a visit from home) during the program
  • Access to an invaluable network of professional colleagues and friends
What we need from you
YMP is based on a two-way commitment between you and Ernst & Young. As with any good business agreement, the program calls for equal contributions from you and the firm—and delivers significant rewards for both. To fully realize your aspirations through YMP, here’s what you’ll need to do:
  • Maintain at least a B average throughout the program
  • Build your skills and experience during your early assignments, and expect more challenging roles as your career progresses
  • Remain with the firm for at least three years after graduation, either in the Assurance & Advisory Business Services practice or a related client-service role
  • Sit for the CPA exam at the completion of the program
  • Repay tuition and room and board fees should you choose not to spend the agreed-upon three years at Ernst & Young
