Meet the 2018 regional judges:

  • Janet Holmes à Court AC

    EY - Janet Holmes à CourtA science graduate from UWA, Janet taught for a number of years before working with her family business. She has won numerous awards recognising her contribution to the community and to business, including a Companion of the Order of Australia.

    Janet is Chair of the Australian Children’s Television Foundation, a Director of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and Deputy Chair of the Chamber of Arts and Culture WA. She is a Board Member of the Australian National Academy of Music, the Australian Major Performing Arts Group, the Australian Urban Design Research Centre and the Australian Institute of Architects Foundation. Janet is a member of the Centenary Trust for Women Board of Advisors at the University of Western Australia, Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities and Commissioner for Australia for the Venice Architecture Biennale.

    Janet was the 2012 EY Champion of Entrepreneurship and most recently, was awarded the Western Australian of the Year Award Arts & Culture.

  • Peter Laurance AO

    EY - Peter LaurancePeter established the first of the Pivot Group of Companies in Perth in 1972, which grew into a publicly-listed corporation in 1984 with offices, property assets and resource projects in most States of Australia. It has been wholly owned by the Laurance family since it privatised the Group in 1990.

    Peter enjoys creating teams of positive, competent people to design, develop and manage diverse property and resource projects and businesses. As Executive Chairman of Sea World and Warner Bros. Movie World, he achieved many National awards as the best tourist attractions in Australia.

    In 1990, Peter was appointed as Chairman of the Queensland Tourist & Travel Corporation to promote the State as Australia’s premier tourist destination. In 1992, Peter was invested as an Officer in the Order of Australia in recognition of his services to tourism, and his lifelong commitment to helping disadvantaged young.

  • John Poynton AO

    EY - John PoyntonJohn is a Director of the Future Fund Board of Guardians (Australia’s sovereign wealth fund) and Crown Resorts Ltd. He is Chair of Strike Energy Ltd, SC8 Ltd and Jindalee Partners and is a former co-founder and Chair of Azure Capital Limited.

    In the not-for-profit area, John is Chair of the Christ Church Grammar School council and Giving West and is a board member of the Security Research Institute at ECU.

    He is a Life Member and Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.

    John holds a Bachelor of Commerce and an Honorary Doctor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia.

  • Ingrid Puzey

    EY - Ingrid PuzeyAfter completing her studies at the University of Western Australia, Ingrid also studied French and German languages in Switzerland.

    Working for two years in Sydney in the merchant banking sector, she returned to Perth in 1987. Ingrid joined her family’s small to medium enterprise in the surgical and medical industry where she worked for fifteen years, the last six as Managing Director.

    Her experience in management, marketing, administration and human resources has translated in recent years to roles in the not-for-profit Sector, most particularly as a Director of West Australian Ballet and Chair of the UWA Centenary Trust for Women.

    Ingrid is the Chair of Equus Bonding Inc., sits on the Perth Festival Philanthropy Committee, and is a member of the Black Swans State Theatre Company White Swans.

    In 2017 she was awarded Citizen of the Year in her local community.
