Ethics and trust strategist Clare Payne has joined EY to help the organisation’s clients respond to falling trust in Australian institutions locally and globally.

Ms Payne, who is currently chief of global strategy for Tobacco Free Portfolios, joined the firm on July 30 as an EY Fellow for Trust and Ethics.

EY Oceania Managing Partner and Chief Executive Tony Johnson said Ms Payne has been recognised globally for her work in ethics.

“We are delighted to have Clare join as EY Fellow for Trust and Ethics," Mr Johnson said. “She’s a tremendous addition to our team and an exceptional individual with a proven track record.”

“Clare has worked across a range of causes in an effort to create new solutions to some of the biggest issues of our time – including ethical investing, trust in financial services and education. She thinks differently, bringing new perspectives, that can ignite change in a way that not many people can,” Mr Johnson said.

Clare is a Vincent Fairfax Fellow for Ethics in Leadership and Honorary Fellow of the University of Melbourne. She was recognised as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2014 and as an Australian 100 Women of Influence in 2016.

In 2010, she led the establishment of The Banking and Finance Oath (The BFO), a Hippocratic oath for those working in banking and finance.

A former employment lawyer, Clare developed the Integrity Office at Macquarie Bank.

Clare has authored two books, ‘A Matter of Trust – The Practice of Ethics in Finance’ (co-author) and ‘One – Valuing the Single Life’, and has a regular column, ‘Ethical Lens’, in The Australian Financial Review BOSS magazine.

"I am delighted to join EY and having the opportunity to work with committed leaders who are prioritising trust and ethics,” Ms Payne said.

“Working with the calibre of clients across the breadth of sectors that EY touches provides an opportunity to create unprecedented and lasting change.”
