WA EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ finalists revealed
Friday, 24 June 2016
EY today announced the 13 successful entrepreneurs from Western Australia in the running to be 2016 Australian EY Entrepreneur Of The Year.
The finalists from Australia’s Western Region will join 64 other talented entrepreneurs from across the country nominated for this year’s awards. This year’s program follows the extraordinary achievements of former Perth resident, Manny Stul, Chairman and Co-CEO of toy company Moose Enterprise, who became the first Australian to win the title of EY World Entrepreneur of the Year in Monaco earlier this month.
EY Managing Partner Western Australia, Mike Anghie said this year’s Western Region finalists brought together a unique mix of entrepreneurs from property development and agriculture, to logistics and education software.
“Western Australia has always been a hub for entrepreneurs and now is becoming renowned for its budding start-up community. Our economy is quickly diversifying and the unique nature of our state lends itself to nurturing the entrepreneurial community and helping it thrive,” Mr Anghie said.
“Globally, entrepreneurship is seen as a launch pad for innovation, job creation and economic growth. Investing in the development and support of our entrepreneurs is not only critical to driving the state and broader economy, but to connecting Australia globally as a destination for entrepreneurs.”
“High-growth entrepreneurs are disrupting the traditional way we do business. They seize business opportunities and gaps in the market and, by taking calculated risks, create products and services that consumers and businesses want,” Mr Anghie said.
“Importantly, they’re following their dreams and inspiring others to do the same – no small feat.”
“Bringing our WA entrepreneurs together is also about taking their own thinking to the next level and aiding collaboration. Helping them build relationships with other like-minded individuals will create even stronger entrepreneurial networks across Australia and globally,” Mr Anghie said.
EY Western Region Director of Entrepreneur Of The Year, Grant Burgess said the Entrepreneur Of The Year awards were a calendar highlight, providing the organisation, its alumni and the broader community in Western Australia a chance to celebrate the entrepreneurial talent in the state and grow the community.
“The finalists should feel proud of achieving this milestone. We congratulate all of this year’s Western Region finalists and look forward to following their progress throughout the year,” Mr Burgess said.
Mr Burgess said EY globally had been celebrating, advising, guiding, recognising and connecting the best high-growth entrepreneurs for more than 30 years, not only through the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Program, but through the firm’s global centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Gary McGrath, WA General Manager, Corporate Financial Services, Commonwealth Bank, said the Western Region winners demonstrate the diversity of entrepreneurial talent in Western Australia, an important catalyst for economic development.
“Business leaders like the Commonwealth Bank have an important role to play encouraging entrepreneurial activity as our local economy transitions from the peak of the mining boom. So we’re proud to support the growing pool of entrepreneurial talent in the Western Region through our sponsorship of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year program.
“The businesses showcased in this year’s Western Region awards are testament to the strength of entrepreneurial talent in the region. Congratulations to all the finalists.”
The finalists will go on to compete at a national level in Sydney in October. The overall Australian winner will then continue on in the global program, travelling to Monte Carlo in June 2017 to compete for title of EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year™.
The finalists will be assessed by a panel of independent judges, including previous Entrepreneur Of The Year award winners and other successful Australian business leaders across six core criteria: entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, personal integrity and influence, financial performance, strategic direction, and national and global impact.
