Beijing Sogou Technology Development Co., Ltd. - CEO
With 15 years of experiences in the internet sector under his belt, Wang Xiaochuan has made the successful transition from a top technology specialist to a leading entrepreneur.
After winning Gold Medal in International Olympiad in Informatics and graduating from Tsinghua University with bachelor and master degrees in computer science and technology, he led Sogou to make 5 major breakthroughs that have reshaped the industry. In 2003, he established Sohu’s research and development center, which enabled the company to develop its technology strength and subsequently launched the Sogou search engine. In 2006, he launched the Sogou input method, which redefined Chinese input methods and propelled Sogou to become the third largest internet company in China by user scale. In 2008, he created the three stage rocket business model integrating input method, browser and search engine, which went onto become the only successful model for a rapid catch-up and a game changer for search engines. In 2010, he served as CEO of Sogou after facilitating its spin-off from Sohu. This breakthrough from the traditional system was followed by the exponential growth of Sogou search engine in terms of revenue and market share. In 2013, under Wang’s leadership, Sogou secured an investment from Tencent and merged its search engine Soso, which changed the landscape of the search engine sector and internet industry in general. Sogou search engine instantly became one of the three dominant players via the PC platform, and meanwhile, its mobile search engine became the sole game changer, rapidly catching up with the industry leader. Overall, the company has become an important game changer in the internet industry in China.
