Gathering Strength for Unstoppable Growth
Nominations for EY Entrepreneur Of The YearTM China 2019 are now open
Beijing, 28 May 2019
EY is very delighted to announce that nominations for the 14th EY Entrepreneur Of The YearTM China (“EOY China”) Awards are now open. The theme of the EOY China 2019 Awards this year “Gathering strength for unstoppable growth” is spot on. Further uniting support for Chinese entrepreneurship, celebrating and sharing the success stories of extraordinary Chinese entrepreneurs, and facilitating cross-border exchange and dialogues will provide guidance for more enterprises and promote China’s economic and social development.
This year is the 70th anniversary of founding of the People’s Republic of China. During the past 70 years of challenges, China’s economy changed from high-speed growth to steady high-quality development with new technology taking the lead in future development. With people’s livelihood in mind, China becomes stronger too. Technology innovation drives a new wave of industrial reform which offers unprecedented opportunities in the form of economic development, optimization of the economic structure and change of growth drivers in China, thus transformation from traditional to new economy model is inevitable.
Albert Ng, China Chairman and Greater China Managing Partner says, “With current uncertainties in the global political and economic environment, China continues to deepen reform and opening up, stimulating market vitality and promoting high-quality development through institutional and technological innovation. In this process, enterprises must rebuild their resource-intensive development models, move up the value chain and explore new development potential. We also see that new technologies are rapidly reshaping and even disrupting traditional industries, and have generated a new range of products, services and business models. It is more pressing than ever that enterprises and entrepreneurs grasp industry trends more accurately, embrace change quickly, and manage uncertainties better.”
The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year TM (“EOY”) program is one of the world’s most prestigious business accolades for entrepreneurs as it honors entrepreneurs who inspire others with their outstanding vision, leadership and achievement. Created in the United States in 1986, EOY has grown and now includes programs in more than 145 cities and more than 60 countries and regions, being presented to over one thousand of the most successful and innovative entrepreneurs around the world. The China Awards program, launched in 2006, is recognized for honoring entrepreneurs in China who achieve success by combining ability with opportunity.
One of the world’s leading financial services providers, Credit Suisse, is the platinum sponsor of EOY China for the 4th consecutive year. Alex Ng, Market Group Head for China, Private Banking, Credit Suisse said, “An entrepreneurial mindset is part of our DNA and culture. At Credit Suisse, we celebrate entrepreneurial-minded individuals who are key drivers of economic and social progress, whose vision, courage, personal commitment and grit powers them to overcome challenges and lead innovations that shape and transform the world around us. As the second largest source of ‘unicorns’ in the world, China has seen impressive and exciting growth of its economy from these companies who are disruptors in their sectors. Our vision is to be the Bank for Entrepreneurs in Asia Pacific, and we have had the privilege of working with China’s many outstanding and inspiring entrepreneurs, to support them in fulfilling their personal and business ambitions. We are delighted to join hands with EY again this year as the platinum sponsor of these prestigious awards. This is the fourth year of our partnership and it has been a fruitful journey together with EY to celebrate and promote entrepreneurship and innovation in the world’s largest emerging market.”
The year 2019 is crucial in achieving the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all aspect. The development of private economy is instrumental in achieving this ambitious target. Since the implementation of the policy of reform and opening up, private enterprises have experienced significant change with witnessing substantial high-quality improvement. At the end of last year, China recognized the economic status of private enterprises and implemented a serious of appropriate policies, including the announcement of policies that benefit private economic development covering finance and tax, currencies, employment, industries and commerce. All these will further drive investment of entrepreneurs, and increase confidence of private enterprises. Behind the challenges in development, there are opportunities, which is more pressing for the new generation of entrepreneurs to think and plan carefully, embrace the difficulties ahead and encourage one another.
Michael Bi, EOY China program Co-chairman and Managing Partner, China Central, EY says, “Since the implementation of the reform and opening up policy, China’s economy is more integrated in the world and more open. Chinese enterprises are in an environment with strategic opportunities brought by technological reform and policy benefits. They are active in developing overseas markets, strengthening cooperation with other overseas enterprises on capacity and resources to realize transformation and upgrading driven by innovation, and in turn achieving quality development. These are new issues faced by entrepreneurs. In this era, entrepreneurship is much sought after, and there is a need to fully implement cooperation between all parties to keep pushing boundaries, to be bold in innovation, and to seize current and future opportunities under a complex and evolving commercial environment, to gather more resources and talent, and to create value for enterprises. They also need to strive to contribute to society and create a healthy corporate development mentality.”
During the kickoff event, EOY alumni, judges, the executive from platinum sponsor, Credit Suisse, and EY clients and executive are gathering together to discuss and share the responsibilities and mission of Chinese entrepreneurs since the founding of China, and how private enterprises should seize the opportunities from continuous economic growth in China to improve their core competitiveness.
Program Co-chairman and Leader of EY at Zhejiang Province, CK Lai says, “EOY already recognized over 100 outstanding entrepreneurs. The EOY China Academy is growing fast. Over the years, we are glad to see entrepreneurs exchange their experience and share their views by arranging regular commercial activities. We are proud to witness their achievement of recurring business growth, and contribution to the economy and society. They are the leaders of entrepreneurship, and play the role of shaping the private sector’s economy and future of China. Now, before the official launch of the EOY China Awards, let us restate that we are looking forward to seeing more outstanding Chinese entrepreneurs to be uncovered and recognized.”
EY welcomes entrepreneurs to nominate themselves. Anyone associated with a successful entrepreneur may also nominate. A nomination form is attached to the nomination brochure. You may also download it at ey.com/china/eoy.
