Cybersecurity needs to evolve from an autocratic ‘tell the business’ to a collaborative ‘sell the business’ on risk-prioritized actions to be smarter about where we are spending our limited dollars.

Areas of focus

An accomplished utilities executive with extensive experience across regulated and deregulated electric, natural gas and water operations, Matt works with EY utility clients to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the operating model used to identify, assess and respond to the most significant risks impacting success.

Matt has previously served as EY Global and Americas Power & Utilities Risk Leader. A constant thread throughout Matt’s professional career has been helping utilities navigate structural changes in the industry and the resulting changes in the risk profile. He has guided electric, natural gas and water entities in Australia through corporatization and privatization and helped US electric utilities reshape in response to deregulation. He worked with industry groups to help define the role of a chief risk officer and establish enterprise risk management programs. More recently, Matt has worked to transform the operating model for cybersecurity.

How Matt is building a better working world

“Solving complex problems with pragmatic solutions is what motivates me — looking around the corner, envisioning the future and codeveloping the map to get us there. Utilities do more than provide safe and reliable essential services. In many communities, local utilities play a significant role in investing and improving the community as a whole. Helping utilities protect the reliability and safety of operations helps build a better working world.”
