  • X²’s arrival expands EY’s sustainability service offering with a certificate for gender equality in the workplace.
  • X² has been focusing more closely on gender equality in the workplace, involving equal attention, treatment and progression opportunities for colleagues irrespective of gender, background, religion, sexual preferences and physical or mental disabilities.

In 2020, X² (pronounced X kwadraat) developed a certificate linked to the ‘Genderequivalent Approved Entreprise’ quality label. The mission: to measure gender equality in the workplace based on specially developed criteria. These focus on equal attention, treatment and progression opportunities for colleagues irrespective of gender, background, religion, sexual preferences and physical or mental disabilities.

Leen Defoer, Assurance leader at EY: “With their specific knowledge, experience, network and expertise, Wivina Briers’ team represents a substantial addition to our sustainability service offering. X²’s arrival adds an extra dimension to our growth strategy and matches our clients’ demand for sustainable and inclusive entrepreneurship.

“We are convinced that, by joining forces with EY, we can make a much greater, lasting impact on the world. I look forward to becoming part of the ambitious EY team,” said Wivina Briers. “It is my personal ambition to see this benchmark used globally in businesses, organisations and public authorities so as to offer equal opportunities to all talent. Empowered by a global organisation like EY, we hope to accelerate its implementation.”

“X² enriches and complements EY’s service offering excellently, for both new and existing clients”, commented Leen Defoer. “Gender-equal organisations have the edge in the labour market. When talent is in short supply and the War for Talent at its height, the certificate is an extra asset for the recruitment and retention of staff. We strongly believe in the team of Wivina Briers, Oxana Moustakas and Ines Mercken and will do our best to ensure that their ambitions have every chance of being realised within the EY family.”

About the X² certificate

The certificate, developed by X², is the first of its kind and is framed by the Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations in 2015. The team behind the certificate comprises eleven professionals from the worlds of business and academia. Based on the certificate, they have drawn up a Code of Conduct around gender equality in the workplace, in line with reports by The World Economic Forum, Unicef, McKinsey and Bloomberg, among others, and ISO26000 standards.
