Kamarul Muhamed initially founded drone specialist Aerodyne Group in 2014 to take commercial aerial images. But when bad floods hit Malaysia later that year, the company deployed drones to aid the emergency response by finding people who were stranded and taking pictures of the damage. Kamarul realized that this relatively new technology had enormous possibilities. Over the past seven years, he has grown Aerodyne into one of the largest drone service companies in the world.

After studying in London and working for a US software company, Kamarul launched Kuala Lumpur-based Aerodyne Group as a three-person startup in 2014. Driven by his desire to use technology for good, Kamarul targeted critical infrastructure companies, offering a cost-effective way to manage their assets with drones, produce data in real time and minimize employees’ exposure to danger.

Today, Kamarul leads a team of over 400 drone operators who manage 110,000 flight operations across 35 countries. Aerodyne’s drone technology is used for infrastructure inspection, surveillance, disaster management, security, field mapping, logistics and crop spraying.
