The 2019 EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year™ winner Brad Keywell explains why COVID-19 is a defining moment for all entrepreneurs.
As the Founder and CEO of Uptake, Brad Keywell understands that business owners and entrepreneurs are facing unexpected challenges and acknowledges the fear that all leaders are feeling. He also believes entrepreneurs have the tenacity to rise up and keep moving forward. He says, “It’s OK to be confused, it’s OK to be scared, but it’s not OK to stop.”
Brad is keen to encourage others that it is “in the unknown that opportunity exists” and that the resourcefulness of entrepreneurs makes them uniquely placed to find those, “morsels of opportunity that are shining through little cracks.”
He adds “My advice to entrepreneurs all over the world is, this is our time,” he says, “ To understand the world, to make sense of fear, and risk, and the unknown, and to continue to move forward, to act, to build, to create. This is a time when entrepreneurs are vitally needed in our world.”
Brad also believes this is the time for leaders to learn. He explains that this crisis has put a spotlight on how businesses function and takes remote working as one example. He has been thrilled that remote working within his company has been a success. However, he points out that it has also revealed that they need more clarity in how they communicate. It’s a lesson he has been grateful to learn and act upon, saying “this is a unique time to improve our organizations.”
