Cannabis in Canada

In 2018, Canada became the first G20 country to nationally legalize cannabis, creating an entirely new sector of the formal economy. Health Canada took a phased approach to legalization and limited the product formats available for purchase in the first year to dried flower, cannabis oil, cannabis oil capsules, plants and seeds. The amended regulations regarding the production and sale of edibles, extracts, and topicals—2.0 products—come into force on 17 October 2019.
While there are opportunities for licensed holders, adjacent industies and new entrants, it is also a challenging operating and regulatory landscape. At EY Canada, we want to be trusted advisors to industry stakeholders in this next stage of unprecedented industry growth.
